Hi, any of you ride trikes? Hopefully here is a photo of mine, nearly finished building it. Its a Harley engine in a modified frame. most of the work done by a mate (freedom needham, thanks mate) A rack has been made at the rear for my chair & the brakes are hand controlled. Hope to have it finished for spring.Attached Image: trike_front_view_cropped.jpg

Trike looks real good. How will you manage the shifting? Air or electric?

Am jealous but happy motoring!

Well, I don't have one yet, but I've been looking around. I'm hoping to have one by this summer. This past Thanksgiving weekend, my brother-in-law gave me the address of a good place to look....so I'll be checking that out soon. I'm hoping to find a good used one, as the new Harley's are quite pricey, but barring that, I guess I'll have to knuckle down and buy a new one.

Nice bikes, guys! Any advice for me in shopping around for one?

Wow I'd love to have one of those. I have quite a few friends with harleys that 2 weeks off every summer to ride cross country. Would be great to be able to join them, but finding a cheap reliable trike just hasn't happened so far.

I got a regular motorcycle from before that I cant ride anymore. I know a guy who has a regular motorcycle with a sidecar. He keeps his chair in the sidecar. A place customized his bike for him and there is a rod that comes up on the side of this bike now for the shifting since that is normally done with the foot, so he releases the clutch with one hand and then grabs the bar with his other hand to shift. Unfortunatly my bike wont work with a sidecar cause I have whats called a sports bike (or in the US also called a rocket.. aka crotch rocket) its a Kawasaki Ninja.

Don't you believe it any bike can be adapted now, what you need is a sub frame making.Which can be made by a u.k.firm Wasp motor cycles. If you seriosly want to ride again I can help with advice and would be glad to.Istarted riding again after many years unable to I now ride again and doing it again is Chritmas every day.My outfits now are ST1100&Wasp chair&Suzuki Hayabusa&Wasp. Both outfits can be used with total independence and I often go to europe alone . So if I have lit a fire get in touch! (Ithink outfits built and set up properly are the best option for W.Chair users.) Goodl Luck. freddy.

Hi, glad you like the trike all. The gear shifting is the standard motorcycle way, hand lever clutch - foot gear change (i can move my left leg enough to change gear) The rear brakes which should be used by the right foot are now converted to be used by the palm of my left hand, its basically a motorcycle front brake & lever turned around and fitted to the left handlebar, sounds awkward to use but its not. The trike is remarkably easy to move around, as i only have the use of one leg, i can move it backwards to park etc.
If anyones interested in getting back into bikeing/trikeing contact The National Association of Bikers with Disability ( or NABD ) These guys now everything about adaptions, recommended people to build trikes and help you with the legal side of things. The also help with grants.

hi all trike riders out there, well i,ve been in the trike seen now10 yrs building and doing the custom trike shows all over the uk ,plus overseas as well. heres some info for the disabled bike/trike riders there is a charity called[ nadb ] nation association for disabled bikers it helps disabled people get back out there on the roads with grants availble for clucth conversions etc etc they are based in manchester,i think there web page is www.nabd.com .just some more friendly advise i cant stop cringing, when am seeing para's having motor bike turned into trike, BIKES WHERE MADE FOR TWO WHEELS NOT THREE there handling round corners is very poor and are very unstable and can pull wheelies which could flip the trike over causing you more injuries.also theres a company based in england building trikes not [bike trikes] for the disabled which are made so you can enjoy the roads safely its worth a look at there web page if you are thinking about trying to get back on the road on a trike www.boomtrikes.com i think .my trike is custom built and the 1st thing i wanted is safety i have a device on the front wheel so if the wheel trys to come of the floor the engine cuts out also i have a auto engine so it wont come of the floor ,also you can turn the handle bar with 1 finger, also is fitted with a harness so when i go round a corner i dont slide off my seat and run myself overand has a high padded seat for support not like the bike seats where you have no support ,its fitted with a hand lever for the brake which locks all three wheel up 3 in 1 ratio it will stop on a penny .and the main safety is that if i have a head on crash the front end is designed to fold up and lift the passengers up out of danger you do not get this with a bike trike .and my trike wil not flip or turn over . happy trikin bro's n sister's roo

Hi Freddy! I am as happy as a pig in...mud. :( I am a complete T8. I was involved with my VFR 800 in an accident. I used to ride a the VFR, a Blackbird and Africa Twin. What you have done with your Busa is exactly what I have in mind for a Blackbird. Can you give me some tips on things that went wrong with the conversion? Like handling problems, final drive etc. I see you still use a chain drive that is linked to some sort of differential. Could u please advise me, as I am finding cars way to boring!!! And bike's aint out of my blood yet - and never will be, me thinks!

Cheers
