I haven't had any pressure sores or skin problems since i've been in the wheelchair which is about 7 years now....I have a therapist who comes every afternoon and does leg exercises and stretches with me, I also rub my legs really well with vitamin E in the morning to help my circulation.
I think this is why my skin is so good..I realise a therapist isn't achievable for everyone but you could get your carer to do the stretches and exercises and she could also rub your legs down each day :Birthday_Balloons:

Hi Mary :drunk:

That's only my thought....when i was at boarding school my head mistress use to rub moisturiser on her legs for her cellulite as she said it gets everything moving, so I just figured it would have to be good for your circulation, i've never really asked anyone about it though!
I was told by my phisio that you should always rub towards your head, not your feet :cold:

I DO have the softest, smoothest skin around though :yahoo:

Oh..I said vitamin E as that's what I use but you could use any moisturiser

Once the sores close up, I have used Vitamin K cream to spead up the healing process. Once a day is usually all you need but if you have someone to do it 2x a day (once in the morning and once at night) then that would be even better. According to reports, Vitamin K cream is supposed to multiplie collagen (a skin protein) and elastin binding, improve skin smoothness and elasticity, suppresses inflammatory enzymes which decreases puffiness and swelling, obstructs histamine formation which reduces allergic skin reactions, and strengthens capillaries, arteries and veins. I dont know about which claims are true or not, just know I have used it before and had great results in areas where I kept getting recurring sores or brusing. I actually just rolled over my foot today and it swelled up pretty big afterwards and is now starting to discolor so after my shower tonight I will be putting some of my Vitamin K cream on my foot.

Wild Yam is also said to help with circulation and in healing closed sores as well but I personally have not used it before, just heard from others that claimed it helped.
