Hi..

I notice that some b&bs are advertising the fact that their wet room/bath rooms are Doc m...so I googled this and they look pretty good., my husband is C5/6 and uses a shower chair.

Any way when I looked closer at some of these places it seems that the bedrooms ( from the pictures ) are the same as any other ...cramped, no turning space and one although it had a fab wet room the door seemed about a foot from one of the beds.

Please could someone explain as it seems that Doc M is only concerned with the bathroom and not the bedroom...I want to book accomodation without looking a complete idiot!

Thanks

Lora

Hi,

Doc M only refers to the type of fitted bathroom.

If you are looking for accommodation in the UK, you need to check their accessibilty rating as follows:

This gives a better overall rating for the general access of the accommodation.

Regards

Simon.

Simon.

Sorry Simon but you're quite wrong - Doc M refers to just about every aspect of disabled access.

The full document is online here

It would seem that while advertising doc M bathrooms places are being careful not to say Doc M accomodation!

Lora

This is not really a shameless plug for non-commercial www.wheelyaccessible.co.uk
(Dedicated to only reviewing wheelchair accessible holiday accommodation.)

But this is why we are collecting reviews of wheelchair accessible holiday accommodation.

To some people, these are small details... but other are deal-breakers.

I know of a couple of independent review sites as ours that takes no money so that the views are truly unbiased.

Thanks
David

Hi guys..

Thanks for the replies..

I will check out the websites,

Russ..I think you hit the nail right on the head..I just had a sureal conversation with a b&b owner.Trying to explain how although the wet room would be fine, given the measurments of the bedroom we wouldn't be able to get the shower chair round the bed to get in there!!and where we would put the electric wheel chair was another thing they hadn't thought of as it has to be charged every day. So I guess the moral is ...don't leave home without checking...and then check again!!

Lora
