Can Walk, Won't Walk?

BBC2 Thu 7 Dec, 7:00 pm - 7:50 pm 50mins

Mik Scarlet has been paralysed below the waist since he was a teenager. After a more recent car crash he was told that with further surgery he may walk again. What will he decide?

This looks very interesting. Heard him interviewed on the radio this morning (Five live about 11ish for those into listen again). He had an SCI as a teenager. Was a very active person and was quite vocal about there not needing to be a cure as life as a disabled person was very good. Thenhad a car crash and could start to feel his feet again. Should he have surgery or not.

Have set sky plus.

I wish i could see that here...would be very interesting to watch.

I think he should go for the surgery...life is so much easier without a sci...and if you have that choice..why not??

I'll see what I can do - I may have the technology to sort something out.

Years of surgery, (it's not just one op apparently), years of physio, uncertain outcome, problems with bone density - I can see why someone with a sorted life that they're not unhappy with might have reservations - I'll be very interested to see it.

I think he'd pretty much made up his mind not to go for the OP from the beginning.
He is a pretty flamboyant character and to start walking again would make him 'normal' which he clearly didn't want to be. He did seem genuinely content with his lot.

Simply amazing. How is it possible that a sever impact could result in such a thing occuring? I fell once and I'll do it again if it will help or may be not. Seriously, good fortunes to this person.

I know that religion is a touchy subject and I respect everyone's viewpoints so I hope that you all will respect mine. Now with that being said, I think that God has a plan for us all and sometimes what we want isn't in that plan. I was injured in a car accident in 04 and I know that my life was saved that night. Regardless of if I ever walk again I know that my life was meant for more than the life I was living. So if he gets the surgery or not, whatever is in God's plan for him will hold true in the end.
