Why oh why do people use disabled toilets as store rooms? Someone approached me at work on Friday and asked me if it was if they put a few boxes in the corner of the room as the room usually used to store the cleaners' equipment was in use.

I said it was fine as it was only in the corner and not in my way. However, when I went to go the toilet this morning there was a hoover, two brooms, 3 buckets and vaious boxes in there! I had to shove the hoover out of the way by ramming into in with my chair, do a wheelie over the wire and move the buckets before I could even get to the toilet! Transferring back from the toilet into my chair was a nightmare and I hit my head on the sink because there wasn't enough room to be able to pull my trousers up! :drooldrip: idiots!

I got really angry and have put a notice up asking them (politely) not to do it! Why is it that people think it's ok to block disable toilets up by using them as a store cupboard when wheelchair users need more room to be able to go the toilet in the first place?!! :mfrlol: It's one thing that reeeeally pisses me off! Being able to go to the toilet is a basic human right and we know that it's espescially important for people with SCI's to be able to go for a pee when we need to!!! :nono: :)

Ah...feel better now!!

Pet peeve of mine too. Everyone everywhere thinks the disabled loo is a store room unless it's regularly used. Go anywhere where they don't see a wheelchair from one month to the next and the disabled loo will be full to overflowing!

That kind of shite would'nt fly here in califonrnia, it's grounds for a major lawsuit if someone gets hurt. Out here, civil lawsuits are such a huge concern, it ends up working out great when your disabled.... Everything is required "by law" to be accessible, otherwise the business will receive a massive fine from the state. So as a result, there is plenty of parking, ramps, bathrooms ect....I only wish it was this way everywhere else, it would cetainly make life much easier for us in the end.

Not a problem I have experienced here in Glasgow. Inside the hospital where I work the disabled loos are very large and accommodating.

As for outside, I have no problems being a member of "RADAR" and having a key to a locked toilet.
ALWAYS REMEMBER - The darkest hour is only 60 minutes long and what won't kill you will make you stronger.

cauda equina lesion resulting in lack of ability to walk. Spinal cord undamaged and intact. NOW ABLE TO HOBBLE AROUND ON 2 STICKS AFTER LOADS OF PHYSIO.

I have a RADAR key and use it in lots of places. They wouldn't fit one at work though cos I work in a school and it has to be available to pupils in case there's a problem with the other toilets.

It is used all the time by numerous people...including me at least 3 times a day!
It was a tiny but better today cos they'd moved stuff...slightly. It was still there though and I still had to run things over. Maybe I should break a few things while moving them out of the way! :blushing02: That'd show em!
