Hi I'm a c5-6 quad I work full time here in NYS and I drive. I very much want to move to Florida but the services in Florida appear to be horrible! Just to signed up for medicaid I have to wait 6months after I establish residencey. Then I'm told the waiting list is 6-12months after you apply. thats 18 months with no services. How can this be????? I want move find a job and work as i do now. Then I understand that any money I make has to placed in a pooled trust??? If this is true, Florida is on the border of discriminating against people with disabilities.
Floridians HELP ME. I need answers! The most important person in the world to me wants to move but I can't go if I'm going to be penalized for being disabled! I NEED to figure this out. Please help

Well I got my answers from florid today. They have no home care hours available in florida for any one! I spoke with the field manager of area #3 medicaid district. They have waiver programs but the waiting list is about a year after you esablish legal residency. But even then very few if any agencies offer home care because the medicad rate is so low in Florida. Florida should be sued by people with disabilities for the lack of care!

I used to live in Florida. Everything sucks there. I used Vocational Rehab and getting anything paid for was like pulling teeth. I never heard of the wages pool thing. I moved to indiana in 1999 and was shocked with the difference in services. I wish you luck, my friend.
