As i read through all the threads I see that many of you are having several surgerys for many different things.

My concern is, even though it has only been 7 months since my fiances injury, he has only had (1) surgery. I'm sure I should be counting my blessings because of this but it worries me that the doctors are missing something.

Can anyone reassure me to be happy about this or let me know if I should be taking him the nearest emergency room for x-rays?

Thanks!

Sincerely,
Truely Paranoid

Don't be. This is a good thing! Seven months is too short a time to determine the direction a SCI will take. Fact is if possible any surgery related to SCI should be avoided until at least two years have passed. You just don't know how much natural recovery will occur and surgery is always risky. I'm certain many x-rays have been taken by the doctors and they have determined your fiance's back injury has stabilized.

Thanks! That makes me feel a lot better.

I'm just paranoid that we're missing something and something bad is going to happen. I guess I have to figure out a way to get over that.

Thanks Again...

Most of the time secondary surgeries aren't needed. Especially if your fiance had a good doc & hospital. No news is good news.

HI,
I'm in agreement with the others. I've had Spina Bifda for 25 years and am just about to have only my 4th operation on my spine. It's been a last resort as it's something they try and avoid unless they really have to do it.

7 months is definitely way too early to make big decisions about performing operations as a lot can change in time and 7 months is very early post-injury.

I hope this makes sense...I know what I mean! :blushing02:

I had the old "bone graft from the hip" straight after the accident.
They made it into a paste and went through the front of my neck (no spinal tables in Mexico) and placed it where the neck was broke so it fused to the next vertebrae.
Then 3 months laid flat in a Philladelphia neck brace whist it hopefully fused.
How-ever it got infected and after a biopsy I was told I may need another surgery but I could lose all function that had returned. This was the worse part of my recovery.
Thankfully I neever needed it....phew.

C-5 Incomplete, Diving Accident in Mexico. Walking with crutches, In controlled pain !
Big respect to all SCI people !
