I'm currently fed up with my poor nights sleep because I have a bad cold. My nose has been bunged up for a week, and I've been coughing up (with help from someone on my diaphragm) loads of gunky rubbish. As a tetra I am acutely aware that respiratory problems are a major, if not the top, reasons of death of tetras.

So feeling rather bad about my inability to breathe deeply or well I read in the recent SIA newsletter about the lung trainer 'power breathe'.

Has anyone used one? any comments? They cost about £40 on ebay, and have been developed for training athletes at Loughborough Uni. but claim to be beneficial to people with limited breathing function - see

www.powerbreathe.com

and the medical paper for sci and breathing training.

Any feedback appreciated.

tried one about 6-7 years ago, they were being trialled at b'ham university and my wife's singing teacher had one. Am c4 complete so lowered breathing capacity, they seem quite good though can get gunky with phlem. one I tried had adjustable resistance, its hard work and I find deepbreathing in bed (less gravitational pull) is just as good, though probably didn't use the device long enough to test it fully.
