Hi Can you help???

I found out today that my 2 week old nephew has been diagnosed with Spinal Cord Syndrome. Firstly we were told it was Spina Bifida. Ive been on a few websites today and its all really hard to take in, theres is so much to read and lots of ifs and buts. Can anyone help me understand what it is (basic facts) and what effects it can have, is there treatment to help etc. Any information would be good.
