Hi, don't know if this is in right place.

My chair has push handles, and when my batteries have ran out on my wheels (usually on long day outs) i need pushing -as i can't manage to push myself with out the power assist. Anyway - they are too low - as my chair back is low

does anyone know if you can get anything temporay that can clip on the handles to make pushing me easier for my hubby as it is giving him a bad back.

I have a Quickie Wheelchair and some of the models have an extension that can be ordered. Try your chair manufacturer first, then maybe "Google" wheelchair accessories....Hope this helps.

This is going to probably sound dumb (and obvious) if you have an adjustable height back then just rais the back height temporarily. I have had to do this before while out and about as my boyfriend is 6'2" and his back gets sore trying to push me along with my back down all the way where I normally leave it.

I know this sound dumb, but ever thought of carrying a 2nd battery? I'm getting a quickie GT with power assist wheels. I'm going to rig a detachable pouch (or a cargo net) under the chair so I can carry a second battery (either that or keep I'll it in the car - depends where I am going.

Depending on model of chair you can get push handles where the base bolts onto the cross bar on the back of your chair. The handle part is removable or "folds in" to the back of your chair. You can get the handles custom length so you could carry the in a backpack or something similar. I know Melrose and Quickie do such a push handle but the cost (AUD$400!).

Good luck.

Just speculating, but here's an idea:

Get some electrical conduit (not rigid) large enough that it can fit over your chair handles and get it bent to make a riser bar...I'm thinking an upside-down "U" shape with the ends of the "U" bent to fit the handles so the bar is vertical.
Just a thought. :(
