** tells the story of 17-year-old sinkerball pitcher Jackie Mitchell who once struck out both Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. Long before Jackie Robinson another Jackie faced terrible prejudice at the tender age of 17. Although she was ultimately barred from playing professional baseball with men, she did have her moment of triumph facing the greats of the Game. The problem was she may have been too good. There may be no "cryin in baseball" but, whining was o.k. for the men when they faced the best female pitcher.
