This won't happen often, but sometimes when I get a spasm — usually only associated with the minor ones — I get an intense sharp headache, rapid heartbeat, and shortness of breath for a moment until it stops. Has anyone else had this experience? I just found it kind of odd, but I'm sure it could be common.

Also, I was wondering:
Are spasms resulting in an actual kick (as opposed to just a tremor in whatever area) ever occurred with anyone else? This will happen often with me.

One time I was perfectly fine and still laying on my back but kind'a propping my upper half up with my elbows, then out of no where my leg came up, held the position for a moment, then shot up and out with force and kicked my poor Mother on the head (seriously, it was a perfect replica of a Taekwondo front-kick).

I've had another event happen were I was laying side-by-side facing each other with my guy, and we were going back and forth just play bickering and fighting or whatever, and just seconds after he was all "so what'cha going to do NOW, hm…?" (he was holding me down and trying to lick my nose at this time — um… yeeaaahhhh, moving on) I kneed him right in the crotch. I felt so, so bad!

More-often-then-not though these spasms will seem like total voluntary actions, and always usually happen just at a relevant to the circumstance time.

Also, is there anyone else who can actually "feel" a spasm about to happen? I can't explain it, but for me, I just somehow know, and can usually stop whatever I'm doing and wait for it to pass (like say, while I'm trying to transfer).

Or better yet, sometimes when I concentrate really hard, hold my breath, and lift up slightly (sounds utterly peculiar, I know) the leg I specifically want to spasm will do so. I used to get all excited and think there might be some connection there until about the 4th grade when I went to FL for biofeedback therapy, and they said there was no connection there, it was just a spasm — maybe they were wrong? Can anyone else do this?

Sorry for the bombardment of questions, these are just all things I've wondered about for some time now (especially the first one). I've never brought it up to a doctor because I didn't want him to do the usual automatic flick of the wrist pill subscription to stop `em, or try to do tests or whatever else. I've never had them so bad as to violently throw me out of my chair or something like I've heard some cases being, and don't see really why they should stop; odd theory, but I honestly think that's what has partially contributed to me having as much tone in my legs as there is.

Jennii,

I don't have headaches or any of the other stuff you mention related to spasms, but I definitely have a forceful kick on occasion - Yes, I too have kicked my husband in the crotch at an inopportune moment and it really did look like I had done it on purpose - fortunately we were able to laugh about it (much later in his case!)
Sometimes I can just be wheeling through a door and turn a corner and up comes one or both of my legs almost to horizontal - that sets off a trigger in my abdominal muscles to tighten and they try to force me into a lying position. I have to fight with my own body and I must look like a 'nutter' to anyone watching.

Fortunately they are not that bad very often. I don't know if my muscles have stayed strong enough to be able to do this because I exercise them using an electric cycle machine that I strap them into?

Anyway that's my experience.

I can feel them coming, so I usually grab onto a tabletop and hook onto my wheelchair when they come.

We should really get padding under our tabletops here, I keep kneeing them hard!

All,
Have had spasms for years, but don't know they are coming. A lot of the time, they are repeated jerks when I stand, change position, or move. Docs keep increasing the Baclofen.

I have spasms whenever I'm touched so I hate for anyone to touch me if I'm doing something.
