Hi Donald,
I am a radiographer and often give presentations requiring some x-ray films to be available on pc. I have not found scanning them using a 'general every day' scanner to give good results - I usually take a digitial photo of the film on a viewing box (bright light box) and download that onto my pc - much better results.
Hope that helps.

I have scanned very old B&W negatives on a regular scanner and then reversed the color (make white to black and black to white) and had very good results with negatives that I could not get scanned anywhere *s*
Prolly 250 DPI is the most you should go. Passed that there is no point in B&W unless maybe youre going to make it really HUGE.
