hi all, my husband had an atv accident this past 06 summer & is now a T8 para, we are going thru all the stages & really ( ha, ha ! ) doing well considering. seems like the biggest challenge for now is nerve/ phantom pain that he is experiencing & the sloooooooow process the docs go thru of med changes & seems like of consideration for the true amount of pain he is in! always talking about him becoming addicted to narcotics, any ideas/ help out there?

Hi newnormal,
My name is mxcrash i had a very similar accident in june 2005. I was riding a dirtbike though, came off a jump wrong and landed square on my butt causing a t12/l1coumpound burst fracture incomplete. I live with cronick pain every day. When i first ended up in the hospital a couple of guys that were there15 years earlyer were telling me what to expect. The one guy had a similar injury as mine he didnt have cronick pain, but the other guy did. He said the pain gets better with meds but never really goes away . Unfortunutly i live with the pain every day also ,some days are better than others. I hope he can find comfort soon ,if he does let me know hes secret.my doctor just switched me from neuronton to lyrica hopefully it does the trick. good luck.
Mxcrash :licklips:

I also crashed an atv, 1 1/2 ago. I'm a T6,7,8. Like mxcrash I also live with the burning nerve pain almost daily, I take 1200mgs. of neurontin a day, I've tried taking more and it doesn't make much difference. My meds all come through the mail, about 6 months back I didn't order them in time and ran out of nuerontin, for bout 6 days I went through what I think was withdrawls, as soon as the neurontin came and I got it in my system all withdrawl symptoms went away. Then my husband and doctor decided I was addicted to oxycodone, was taking 6 to 8 a day, quit those cold turkey to show them I wasn't addicted-no problem. Good luck

thanx so much for the replies, sounds like when you hurt your spine this bad the nerve pain is part of the "package" i have been doing lots of reading on the net & stuff w/ similar info............ but you always hope it just isn't so!
my hubby is at the 600 mg level of neurontin now, also oxycontin, valium, vicodin & now cymbalta & nothing touches it, every so often he gets a day w/ a break & it is so wonderful, he actually feels like participating in life rather than just being in bed w/ the door shut & the boob tube on. Thanx again & take care all.
