Well I'm not exactly a spouse. But my best friend, who I'm very close with recently got into a tragic car accident. The passenger died and my friend was paralyzed from the waist down. I am pretty ignorant on the subject but since I found out, I've been trying to learn how the spinal cord works. I have no experience with the subject so my question is, how can I comfort my friend? How can I help him feel better? I know it's a stupid question but any advice will do. Thank you very much.

Hi and welcome to the message board. I think the most important things you can do is be there for your friend and still treat him the same as you did before the accident. When I was in the hospital friends I've known for years just left and never came around me again because I guess they didn't know how to act around me or felt uncomfortable. It made me feel so bad. If you just show him that you still think he's the same person he was before (which he is) and don't treat him any differently and act comfortable around him it should help a lot.

Just being there for your friend is very important. Not only because of the injuries that your friend has, but also the emotional trauma that he is going through. I know that the support system we had through all of this has gotten us to where we are today...Good luck and blessings to you and your friend.
