I am sick of having to rely on taxis for transport and am now looking to drive. One of many hurdles will be disassembling my chair, particularly the wheels. Axles will be a problem because I have poor hand function.

I currently have a button style axles:

and these were fine because I rarely take the wheels off (in fact somebody else does if they need to be disassembled).

I am looking at using either:

or

I'm leaning towards the lever style as some quad buddies of mine say the "eye" ones can rotate off an axle.

Any thoughts/experiences appreciated.

Have you considered a van where you can drive directly from your chair?

I'm a c6 complete. I've had big button quick release axles on my chair, but I ordered the quad quick release ones for my new chair. I'm not exactly sure what they look like because I don't have them yet, and it was an option to choose, but I thought it would be something I could use more easily by myself.

Thanks Tony. Yeah, I thought of a modified van but they're expensive (50-75k depending on mods/hydraulics etc, I saw a brand new hydraulic everything one for 130k! ) compared to a mid-size wagon. My wife works for Ford so we get family discount making a Mazda 6 wagon 28k. All $ are Aussie dollars too.

I think the ones you are describing are the first picture I posted after the standard button axles. Sport Aid calls them "Quad Quick Release Axle Nut." You reckon they're the same?

I'm not sure, I ordered my new chair from Sportaid and it was on the order form. It's a Top End Crossfire Titanium from Invacare. I didn't order them right off of the Sportaid website. I know Sportaid sells ones that can convert small button quick release axles into the quad quick release ones (which is like the second one you listed), but I'm not sure how different they are from the ones from Invacare. If I ever get my chair i'll check to see if they are the same! It's taken Sportaid 9 days to even let the order go through and we are paying cash. Good thing they didn't have to deal with an insurance company! :)
