Hi everyone,

My husband suffers from really bad spasms and they have only been getting worse. We stretch and stretch but it dosnt seem to help. In the mornings especially you cant even move the blanket without setting him off. The past few weeks they have been getting worse to the point that he is scared to move. Well yesterday we fiqured out a way to help get rid of them.
In the morning when he wakes i stretch him then just rubb the spasms out of him. I will rub and tap on his legs when a spasm comes just keep rubbing the same spot once the spasms gone keep rubbing. I will do this for about fifteen minutes and it made a huge improvement.

Just wondering if anyone else has tried this? And if not maybe you should give it a try and let me know if it helped you.

Talk to you all later...

I have spasms so bad on a few occasions I have almost literally kicked Julian right out of bed! I find they are worse when I am getting sick or getting a uti. Sometimes stretching actually makes the spasms worse as you are doing it, but when you are done they seem to calm down.

I also have been using Frog Legs on my wheelchairs. They absorbe a lot of vibration and I noticed a huge difference in my spasms when I started using them. Before I used them every time I hit even a crack in the sidewalk my legs would jump off my footrest, but now I don't have a problem with that happening. You can find them here: http://www.froglegsinc.com/ :)

1. Spasms can also be triggered by UTI and other symptoms.

2. When I have bad spasms, I put ice packs on my legs and I wrap it in a towel. I place it there for about 10 to 15 minutes.

3. What muscle relaxants do you take? Maybe a check up to increase the drug or have it combined with several anti-spasticity.

my two cents

I have problems with not getting enough sleep from spasms, maybe 4 hours of good sleep. Anyone else have this problem? What would be a good muscle relaxant?

Any help will be well appreciated.

Try gabapentin, it works for me, i've been taking it for 2 years now. About 1800 mg's a day is what i take. I know what you are going through, i used to go through that myself.

Hi Trevor. T6. I’m T4 but consider I have only moderate spasm.
I find general moving about keeps my spasm under control. It’s more noticeable when I’m parked at the computer for long periods or resting in bed. So, for me, it’s an incentive to keep active.

To break increased spasm activity I encourage it (I have a flakey theory that I’m releasing the blocked energy in the muscles). My most efficient exercise is to roll on to my tum and stretch out. I’ll thrash away for a brief period then roll on my back and stretch that way. Maybe a bit of a foot and toes stretch to finish. Then it’s on with whatever I’m doing.

I’m very reluctant to take anything orally because there are always side affects but I understand that for some that is the only practical solution.
