I took my dog for a walk today. We just live 6 blocks from downtown but halfway there's a railroad track. We wandered around on this side for a while but then I decided I'd cross the tracks where I hadn't crossed before. Something in the back of my mind said that maybe I shouldn't venture where I hadn't been before when I didn't have anyone with me.....

....but I picked a place that looked "safest" and started across. First bump and I thought for sure that I was stuck but I kicked it up into a higher gear and it came up out of the rut. Whew! Scared me! My mind was racing. Who would I have called? I guess the police. I decided that I'd go over and block and cross the tracks where I was used to crossing without mishap so far to go back home.

As me and my dog made our way back the 3 short blocks home I heard a train whistle at the edge of town. I would estimate the edge of town to where I was on the tracks to be about 10, 12, maybe 15 city blocks. If I'd been stuck would the police have gotten to me in time?

I'm supposed to walk my little dog to the groomer Wednesday and now when I get to that railroad track I'm going to be scared. I'm going to think about my front wheel turning sideways and getting stuck in between the rail and the tie. I don't want to be scared of anything. I wasn't before I was in this chair and I don't want to be now.

What scares you?

The thought of the house catching on fire while im in bed even though the fire dept. is 6 blocks away. Shephard Center where I went to rehab tells you to call your local fire dept. when you get home and let them know where you are and where your bedroom is located. Even though I did this would they get to me in time if I couldn't get out? I worry more about my daughter getting caught in the fire trying to get me out.

I live in a very rural area where there is next to no flat roads nor paved roads. My biggest fear is that I am going to get stuck trying to get up a hill or get thrown from my chair going down due to a caster turning wrong or getting a rock stuck up there and then someone come flying over the hill in their vehicle and hitting me.
