Newsflash
Wednesday, May 2, 2007
well as most of you do not know I've been fighting a losing battle with this decubitus/bedsore and not have much success. So today I went to the doctor and the news was not so good. I have not made any more progress in past three weeks for some reason it has come to a complete standstill. Apparently the infection has not been dealt with completely.
Therefore I would like to inform you that I will be on a vacation of some sorts if you want to call it that starting next week for approximately 4 to 6 weeks first at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare for three days and then move to extended care facility or rehabilitation center for the remainder of the four to six weeks.
The treatment will include a infectious control Dr. to get my ongoing osteomyelitis/bone infection under control by changing to a different IV antibiotic.
Then I will have to go through hyperbaric oxygen chamber therapy that will be approximately 2 hours a day for five days a week for a minimum of 20 visits.
I will also be consulting with a plastic surgeon about doing a muscle flap reconstruction surgery on my derrière/booty. I am also thinking about a little facelift or nose job or something any input would be gratefully appreciated . Laughing out loud!
Hopefully they will have Internet service so I can take my laptop and still be in contact with you great people.
Please do not be sad on my behalf because this was my choice and I believe it was the best choice I could've made. And the reason I say that is I have been battling this going on seven months with the last two months been completely bedridden except for once or twice a month for Dr. appointments .
so please say a prayer, send me a good luck wish or just drop me a line to let me know how you feel. I appreciate all of your support and well wishes in advance because I know that I have many many wonderful friends.
I love you all
Thanks,
Mickey

Mickey,
Wishing you all the best on your oncoming vacation...LOL...
I had 40 some Hyperbaric treatments and they did help my decubitis on my foot.It just takes such a long time for the healing process.Just don't get worried if your eyesight gets a little blurry after your HBO treatments. That will all go away later. So I will be praying and thinking of you that every thing goes smoothly.
My golly a facelift also....shazam your going all out...Let the good times roll....Ha...
Hoping all the best to you....

I can really empathize with you Mickey. I had two flaps done on my rear end. It turned out that jay reconfigured their gel cushion without telling consumers. Anyway, try to keep your sanity while staying bedbound for about three months. I've never heard of using a hyperbaric therapy for decubes. That sounds interesting. I've always had the doc cut away the infected bone rather than trying to rid it of infection. One last thing. Have you heard of the hil-rom clinitron rite-hite bed? Rite-Hite It really is wonderful in that it effectively allows your rear end float with zero pressure.

Good luck,

Brett, I Hadn't Heard of It until I Read Another Post You Had Done Saying That You'd Been on It and It Was the Best.
I Haven't yet Talked to My Doctor about It but I Plan to before I Go into the Hospital Next Week.
I Did Look It up on the Internet and It Looks like the Real Deal.
As Far As My Sanity Goes I Hope I'll Be All Right the Doctor Just Doubled up on My Medicine Dosage so Maybe I'll Be a Happy Camper for a While Anyway.
I Appreciate All the Support from Everyone. I've Been a Member Here for a Long While and Just Recently Started Posting and Interacting with Other Members Here. While your in the hospital ask if they have a doctor that works with "Phages" to help your wound heal and stay clear of infections. This stuff works miracles, and actually cures MRSA.....yes, I said CURES MRSA...it worked for my husband...

I wish you all the luck...I've watched my husband go thru these trials of life for about 5 years, on the butt....

LadySmack thank you for the information. There will be an infectious control doctor consulted with as soon as I get to the hospital so I will mention it to him. I did look a little bit of it and it does seem promising.
Thanks again for your support.

Brett,
This is what I call the Princess and the Pea Bed. You can lay on a high heel and never feel the pressure. I try to get all my "qualified" wound patients on this. Not everyone can tolerate it, tho'.
I had one patient complain of seasickness. I was sad to place her on another clinitron, but Hill Rom makes the best beds as far as wound healing and pressure relief.
Best of luck to all of you!

Hi there,
I wish you all the best, I have worked in the hyperbaric chambers and seen some astonishing results. You sound like you will be receiving some great care and that you will come out smiling at the end and all the hard work will be worth it. Thoughts are with you.
Life is to short so make the most it while you can!!! And by the way smile, it makes everyone wonder what you have been up to lol

Thanks everyone for all your support it means a lot to me. All were waiting on now is for the surgeon to get opening in the operating room. They really must been doing a whale of the business because it could be Friday next Monday but in the meantime I still will be getting my hyperbaric treatments so that will be 8 treatments before surgery with 22 remaining after surgery.
So I have all reason to hope and believe things are going to work out reasonably well with this timeline.

Best of luck and a speedy recovery. I've had one pressure point sore on my tailbone and after it healed I was told by a worker with Homehealth that I needed a Temper Pedic mattress for home and they also got me a temper pedic cushion for my chair. You can place your car keys on my cushion and not tell a family member let them sit on the keys and they can't feel them. Your body molds into the mattress and the cushion it conforms to you. It has been 5yrs and I haven't had another sore. Its the same mattress that is sold on TV but with my Doctor stating I needed the mattress and why my Medicare paid for it. Something to think about. I got the two thru Proline Medical Consultants here is the US the office No. is (770)443-1468 something for you to think about and best of luck again.
