Hello,
I am a t7 paraplegic with some damage to t4 aswell. I have been injured since 1998. I have had really bad angina for 2 years and the doctors say that it is due to ribs out of place caused by my injury. This is especially bad because heart trouble is the leading cause of death in spinal cord injury patients. It feels as though I am having a heart attack all the time, especially the hours close to going to bed. It is hard to tell the difference between this angina and heart issues that are normal to spinal cord patients. I would like other spinal cord injury patients to post the heart symptoms they are having along with the time since injury so that I may compare mine to yours and get a better barring on the situation. It is hard to tell anything with the information my body is telling me. Also post anything else that may be helpfull to other spinal cord injury patients relating to the heart. thanks.

As a T4/T5 para, I do not know of any heart related problems that I have.
My heart rate is usually around 65 with a blood pressure of 100/70. It varies about 10 points either way on either value.
I do try to exercise my heart with endurance efforts like a handle pedal machine (Monark 881?). I beleive it is always good to push the body a bit to keep it in shape.
I just added my condition as one benchmark for comparison basis.

Well, I am quite surprised. I didn't know that heart problems were particularly associated with SCI. I would have thought lung problems and pneumonia would have been the leading cause of death. Where do you get your statisics from, mdman10?
I am about like AHolland in having very normal blood pressure and pulse so no one has every found anything wrong there. I have had various operations in the lest few years so have been checked by the anaesthetists a few times.
Exercise is something I do as there is a local supermarket about 5 - 10 mins away from where I live so I make a point of going up there several times a week, by chair, just for the exercise.

Hi Madman10
This is just my opinion and observation;
It's a surprise, that your having angina and it seems that you think because of lack of excercise?
For those SCI is common to them to have a bladder problem.
As you've said you got injured last 1998 and presently with angina since 2 yrs ago.
If you had injured 1998 and doctor says its due to ribs not in placed.Why,Angina...develop after 5 yrs?(I'm just wondering,i'm not asking about what the doctor says.)
Having heart problem contributed with a Family History as well it's a One factor.
Better to see the Heart Specialist about your Heart problem.
And you cant do an excercise because of this problem.
Let us know what's going on.
Good Luck and Have A Good Day.
