Hi, my husband Trail-Boss just spent 9 days in the hospital. We got to talking about life insurance. We never had it before his injury. All we live on is his SSDI, I am his 24/7 care-giver(which I hate being called that, I am his wife/best friend.) We do own, pay on, our home and property and we don't want to ever lose it. We asked an insurance agent once on getting some life insurance, he told us that there wouldn't be any company that would give him life insurance because he is in a wheel-chair. Why is that? Do disabled people have a short life span? I know alot of AB people who are very hard on thier bodies, and they can get some.
Have any of you applied for life Ins. after the injury, and received some? We just started researching this, so any advice would help.
Thanks in advance,
Wife Stick-Tight

Stick-Tight, all I can say is that I tried and was denied. I wasn't very persistent though because I really don't care, so Your Results May Vary yrmv.

I hope Trail-Boss is doing better now.

Re: Caregiver status, I am always concerned for my caregiver and recently found this site to be helpful in that.

Well ...

I wanted to buy an appartment and I wanted to cover my loan with a life-insurance so that my girlfriend has everything paid if I die ...

... like you, first I experienced 3 negative answers ... then you have few choices :

1. you give up ...

2. you talk to some journalists and try to get some public coverage ...

3. you go and see a lawyer as it is illegal and against human rights ...

4. My method  you get in touch directly with the CEO of a very famous bank and *miracle* the guys that told you "no" the day before, he phones you back with apologies and your contract is ready for the following day ...
Was I lucky ? Probably ... but perseverance is always good.

Of course you might have to pay a bit more than an AB ... but don't push your luck too far. It is already difficult to reach an agreement with a bank

Cheers
DA
