HI everyone,
I thought I would let you know a little about me,I have been in a bad car accident which has left me a paraplegic,I had my accident feb 15 2006 my level is T2 I am finding very hard to cope with all of it because I have had liver cancer in 1993 and I had bowel cancer in 2003,so being left a paraplegic after fighting for my life twice and to end up like this makes it hard for me. I thought I would join a you all here for some support,I am really need to be able to communicate with people who are going through the same thing too,I do have good days but I am always thinking bad thoughts,I have 3 kids and my husband has been really great through all this if it wasn't for him and the kids I don't think I could've gone on. I have spent most of the last 12 months in hospital and I am sick of the sight of them,I have managed to stay home now for 3 months without having to go back for an operation or for some other reason. I am having trouble with my SPC at the moment and it is bringing me down. I am going to the doctors tomorrow about it my carer said it needs to be looked at I hope it is nothing to worry about, thanks for listening AUSSIE

Holy crap, it just never stops for some people does it?! Reading your story really reminds me of the resilience of the human spirit. As for your SPC, what is the exact problem? With mine it gets mucky really easy and there is nothing I can do about it apart from giving it a good clean in the shower every morning, and if I'm not able to have a shower I just soak some gauze in saline and let it sit on the stoma for a little while and then clean the site ... I guess I'm just saying that I'm hoping your problem is nothing serious than that it's just the annoying problem of a catheter site that just doesn't want to stay clean! Some people get really freaked out when they see how mucky my site can get, but it is really nothing sinister.

In the end, good luck :-)

Hi Aussi chick. welcome to the forum!
if you need support, then you have come to the right place!!!

I know this is a little of topic, but in reply to Elizabeths comment about the SPC, if it is worrying you because it is getting 'crusty' around the site, then could i suggest (to anyone who has the same problem) that you could try using something called CHLORAMPHENICOL. it is an ointment originally designed for the treatment of eye infections. It was reccomended to my partner by his district nurse, as he was getting crusting around the site wound, and i have to tell you it has worked miracles. He no longer has any weeping at all, and the site is totally clean. It is perfectly safe, as it is meant to be for eyes which are very sensitive, but i guess when you have conditions such as conjunctivitis (sp!) its a similar crustiness to what is around a SP site!

Anyway, if it is nothing to do with the site, then let us know and im sure there will be more suport and advice for whatever it might be that is bothering you!

stay strong and keep smiling!!

Welcome to the board Aussie.
I'm new too.
Very friendly, knowledgeable group here.

You've gone through alot.
You should be proud of your strength.
Ask God and he will carry you when you feel weak.

Praying all went well at the Drs.
Please keep us updated.

Thanks for the info Becca.
Mine does crust, but mostly blood from being pulled.
I'll talk to my Dr. about using it.

Have a nice day.
God Bless~

Thankyou all for your welcome's and advice, yes it is about the site getting really gunky and it has also been bleeding alot the last few days ,I also have a rash that has started there too and the same rash is near my ilieostomy site and also on my bottom,so m doctor has done a swab from around the SPC site and told me to have clonea cream applied on the areas were I have the rash she said it looks like a fungal thing,I will get the results of the swab in a couple of days.
