Hey all,
I just found this web site and found it comforting to see the stories of other folks
who are similar to me. I suppose that's why we're all here, right?
I suffered a c6/c7 incomplete injury in an MVA when I was 21. Basically, I average about 30% from my injury line (chest) on down. Some things are 50%, some things are 30%, some things are 0%. It's always strange putting a number on that, but that's how I explain it to able-bodied folks who ask what it's like to be me. I consider myself lucky. Very lucky.
I've never had any friends with SCI beyond the few that I knew when I was living in the hospital after my injury. Sometimes that's a bummer. I've always thought it would be nice to commizerate a little. Or at least laugh about some of the ridiculous stuff that people with SCI put up with; from ignorant peoples comments to, in my situation, holding up a commercial flight on the verge of take-off because I had to use the bathroom (that's a funny story).
I hope to hear a few of your tales and make a few friends.
Hope to meet you,
Bryan

Hi Bryan,
I know your going to love it here. It's a great place. I'm not sure what rehab centers are near you, but a lot of the major ones dealing with sci's have support groups. Here in Atlanta they have a lot of them at the Shepherd Center. They also have a lot of sports teams. Maybe if there's something like that near you, you could join a team or take part in a group. Maybe even volunteer. You will get to meet a ton of people in similar situations.
The only friend I've ever had who was a wheelchair user had spina-bifida. Other than her, I lived in a small community and went to school with people from about 10 other communities. There was also another girl who had Spina-Bifida in the high school I went to. Even in rehab I was in a small rehab center where I was on a floor where there were mostly people who had had strokes. In Canada you just tend to go to the rehab. that's closest to you. I think it's great in the US how you can choose where to go!
