[color=#000099][b]I know you guys have already touched on this subject... but I would like to hear what you guys have to say for me.

I am an incomplete paraplegic with a T11-L2 injury (rods).
And of course, I am planning on going to a theme park this summer...
One of my family memebers insists that I DO NOT go on any rides b/c of my back injury (but what do they know, right?).. But my injury happened in '05.... Do you think I can still ride a rollercoaster?

Thanks!!!!! :yahoo:

Sarah....

I have ridden coasters, having two rods. I asked people coming off the rides what the forces on their bodies were like before I decided which coaster I wanted to try. If you have good arm strength and can wedge yourself securely in the seat, secure your legs...then I'd say 'YeeeeHaw!'

(Try not to scream too hard, or you might wet yourself. :yahoo: )

Let us know how it goes. :)

Your back, while possibly in pain, is probably stronger now then it was before. If you have rods there in place, then it is for sure. i went water and snow skiinng within 2 years of my injury, my parents were telling me the same thing, that it was dangerous. I told em the injury had healed, maybe not the spinal cord itself, but the vertabrea wasn't going to be damaged again any easier then it was before the wreck.

I rode the raven and legend rollercoasters on this link. Click on pic for full ride video. I am c6 quad complete and wasn't thrown around too bad. The vids are real good so you shold be able to better make your decision about what you can handle.coasters

I took my kids to Kings Dominion in Virginia when I was 37. I had never been on any rides since I was walking 25 years earlier. I decided to get on the rides with my boys, We went o the Log Run which was a 80 ft dead fall straight into a canal of deep water, I thought I was going to Die ! Then I tried the Rollercoaster Ahaaaaa!! This was to be my only time on a coaster since, Everything was ok except for the fact that you have no Legs to hold you down in your seat, it took everything I had to hold onto that bar (just a bar in those days) I held so tightly that I nearly passed out. When you go into Zero gravity on a coaster its scary when you have no legs to hold you in. I'm a T-6 and I found this was not the best way to stay healthy!
P.S. But I will never forget it !!

I absolutely LOVE rollercoasters! So, when someone told me that I shouldn't ride one anymore... I wasn't very happy to say the least :dunno:

So, thank you everyone for all the advise!!!
