hi all,

my name is rachel, i am 25 and live in israel.
i am sorry for the long message :mfrlol:.

on my 23rd birthday i received a special present. one that i will live with forever.
my boyfriend at the time took me out to celebrate my birthday. we went out for a romantic dinner and ended up having a close encounter with a traffic light.
i do not remember anything first hand but i was told that he took a left turn probably way too fast and the car did not agree with him.
the driver side had an air bag but the passengers side did not.
i broke my c6 and c7 and dislocated t11-l2. my pelvis and right leg were crashed as well as some internal organs.
my cord was not completely severed on impact as paramedics reported i was responding to pain stimulation on site. it is unknown at which point in time the complete damage actually happened.
i was unconscious for 8 days. in icu for 2 months (they wouldn't release me from icu before i totally regained spontaneous breathing so i was on vent for 2 months).
2 additional months in the orthopedic ward in the hospital and 5 months in rehab, the last 2 months as an outside patient. all in all i was finally 100% at home
today i live with my parents. i have a 24/7 care giver.
i have little movement in my left arm and some better movement in my right arm and hand though i have none in my fingers.
that's about the story of my injury.

oh and my boyfriend, the driver. well when i last saw him i was still on the vent. nice.

i am at home most of the time and am online on and off. i am using windows live messenger if you care to chat (be patient, i type very slowly so emails is easier if you do not have the time...).

nice to meet you all

rachel the super girl

Hi Rachel,

You are very welcome. My son is C2/C3 complete and is 19 years old. Any questions you have I guarantee will be answered by someone here. They have been a great source of info.

As for your boyfriend, obviously he could not deal with the guilt. My son's friends all departed after his accident but he remains very optimstic about his future and has gone back to education in the last few months, and is making new friends constantly.

Good luck with you for your future.

Lynne

Hi Rachael, welcome. Everyone here is very friendly and ready to roll out the welcome wagon. Wow from Israel.....that must be interesting in and of itself. LOL
