Hi all-
I'm a T-5 para - have been in a chair for 35 years now. I'm having to go in for hemmorhoid surgery on July 23 - has anyone had this surgery? How did your recovery go? Thanks for any info you can share!

Hi linda..I had hemroid surgery in 2000, to get rid of my 'bunch of grapes' as we called them :ban:
I expected to have a ''normal' butt post-op, but I was drastically disappointed that they had only snipped, tucked & stappled. The year post op was a nightmere, it was 7yrs ago & from memory, I don't think 2days could go by without a BM happening shortly after getting into my chair. Fortunately this did stop, but I'm now back to sq1 again as the 'grapes' have returned. I am seeing the surgeon on Wed to discuss surgery again & if a colostomy bag would be a good optiion now, as I've been in a chair for 23yrs. (I think it's had enuff!!)

Good luck & I'm sure your outcome will be a happier one than mine.

This is a paste from another thread where we discussed this subject. I've been a para 26 years and this was my first time needing medical attention. Have a read and let me know if you'd like more info on the kesey treatment.

LadyP, I have undergone a procedure called "kesey". I have included a link for you to read more if you like.
http://www.drnardell...ents/kesey.html

I had begun to develop bleeding hemorrhoids over a year ago and because I take blood thinners (from developing bilateral DVT's) the situation became serious. I had been bleeding daily for a few weeks and resulted in me passing out for 20 mins.(thankfully I managed to transfer to my bed before doing so). I was admitted to hospital for a transfusion a couple hours later when my tests showed my blood counts left me basically "half full". I was sent to a rectal surgeon for follow up and he did a "banding" procedure and told me to come back for surgery if they reappeared. They did but I was reluctant to have surgery so I consulted with a naturopathic physician and discovered the kesey treatment.

It was simple and painless and took all of 5 mins for each treatment (I had 5 or 6 total). Basically you lie on your side and a double pronged rod is inserted into the rectum where it sends electrical current to the inflammed tissue thus shrinking it. I haven't bled since (knock on wood) and I avoided an expensive surgery that would have required me to need another transfusion because I'm on the coumadin. AB people who have this done come in on their lunch breaks and go right back to work w/out any pain or discomfort.

If there is any such treatment available in your area I would highly recommend looking into it. My insurance does not cover naturopathic procedures so I had to pay out of pocket but to me it was well invested.

PS> I have also really changed my diet to include a LOT of fiber and lots of water and it's made such a difference. It's nice not to worry anymore.
Best to you with your situation!

I would like information about the Kesey treatment - I live in central California - I haven't been able to find any Naturopathic physicians listed around here...

Here is a link to a doctor who first told me of the treatment. He is in Ore but you can call his toll free number and possibly his staff can link you to someone near you. Surely they must have some form of networking out of state as well as amongst their local colleagues. It's well worth checking into as it is so non-invasive a procedure and my down time was recommended as just a "couple hours" off my bottom. Which I didn't really do but I did make sure to sleep on my side the evenings I had treatments.

Linda,
See what you can do short of surgery. I've had two hemorrhroidectomies and now have two up-coming appointments for a possible colostomy. I can't stand the pain, the rectum closing up, and daily dilation to keep it open.

Wheelz-
Thanks for writing - Sorry to hear about your difficulties. Actually, I have decided to postpone the hemorrhoid surgery and try to find some other ways of dealing with these problems. I may also have to consider a colostomy eventually.

My dr. prescribed Magic Bullets suppositories (find them on the internet) and Lactulose laxative. Have your suppository at night. It solved my problem.
