I had a bad fall two weeks ago and landed on my bottom. The pain in my lower back has been really bad and it's getting worse. I have been experiencing problems with my legs since then and have got an appointment to see the consultant in two weeks time. As as he is on his holidays.

This is new for me as I haven't really experienced a huge amount of pain before now, and wondered if anyone else had any coping strategies.

I find keeping the mind busy helps. Heating pads or a hot soak in the tub are great as well. Hope you feel better.

Besides medicine, staying busy on the move whether its exercise, shopping or just getting out has helped me. I use ice,not to long at a time;i believe 15 minutes on and 15 minutes off.Heat doesn't work for me to often.Sleeping of course helps.Suprisingly, elevating my legs helps me,yet that may not be good for your back.If you have someone to massage the area or an ointment like Ben-Gay or aspercreme could help, although that isn't neccessarily soothing. Hopefully some others who have had your problem chime in.

I have done this before and i totally understand your pain. I have pretty close to normal sensation below my injury so i too feel all the pains of falling and such. The last time I fell and hurt my lower back I was in pretty bad shape, it hurt so bad just to transfer out of bed in the morning.
I think one of the best things you can do is to take some sort of anti-inflammatory. You'd be surprised how much even a little swelling can hurt. I also found that it really helps if you can take a hot bath, or if you have trouble getting in the bath, at least a hot shower. The warmth really helps to loosen those muscles up. Stretching, if it doesn't cause too much pain, can also really help. You probably need to just try and take it easy if you can, give that area some time to heal.
I hope this helps you. I know the pain is awful, but just think how lucky we are that we can feel anything at all!
