I decided to go to the grocery store tonight as usual. I didn't realize that there would be crowds of people on the sidewalk here, but when I got outside, there were big breaks in the crowds, and I decided to take my chances instead of having to go out at 12am by myself.

I get down the hill outside and onto the sidewalk where people wouldn't even slow down walking for a few seconds to let me out. I couldn't stop in the middle of a hill that has cobblestones! So I finally get onto the sidewalk and people are pushing past me and shoving me almost onto the grass! Thank God I was on the INSIDE of the sidewalk! I tried to move out a bit to avoid a huge crack (or more like holes) in the sidewalk, but people pushed me back and I ended up getting my front wheels caught in the hole, tipping over sideways, smashing my forehead off of the pavement and scratching ther hell out of the frame of my BRAND NEW wheelchair! The people who were AHEAD of me helped me get up, but the people behind kept walking over us to get by.

Then I was in the grocery store, and this girl was scared of being near my guide dog, She started freaking out to the guy she was with in muslim and they pushed past me running away. I heard someone else behind me talking to them and thought they were going to run me down too (there was plenty of room to walk around me), I turned towards Sophie to make sure she wasn't freaking out over this and had to swerve to avoid being run over. This made me come within 2 or 3 feet of another guy who jumps out in front of me moving his arms all around and yells "COULD YOU  WATCH WHERE YOUR GOING!" I wasn't anywhere NEAR actually hitting him! I wanted to just yell back at him "I WOULD IF I COULD SEE!" But by this time there was a huge sceen caused and I felt like a piece of crap!

All of this because I had to go out while it wasn't so hot outside I'd die of AD and because I had to get something for supper tomorrow night. Out of everyone who was there only ONE girl and her husband had the decency to even ask if I was ok after smashing my head into the pavement and the people who actually pushed me totally ignored what happened, stepped over Sophie's leash and kept on walking leaving me to get run over in the dark by the crowds of people getting back from the fireworks.

Anyone know how to get deep scratches out of titanium? :)

Man thats bad. I had not nearly the same experience but still negative yesterday...

We went out to dinner but this one restaurant was closed so we decided to go down to the little carnival and get something to snack on there. Well we had to walk down what was the parade route the following morning and people had their chairs sitting out already the night before. I was going to try and get down the curb onto the street but there were so many people that had ropes tying off there area that whenever there was a place that wasnt tied off there were companies advertising by having boats and all kinds of stuff filling the shoulders so we had to go on the sidewalk. So we go down this sidwalk and there are awnings and it is so narrow my boyfriend has to walk behind me instead of next to me. Because of the awnings there are posts every 15 feet or so and the people that are walking towards me of course are not moving so every 30 feet or so I have to tuck in between the posts. I got tired of this at one point and kept on going cause why should I be the one who is moving for everyone else. Then everyone I passed had to tuck in between the posts and all I hear is them talking under their breath about how I should have moved for them! We finally get down to the carnival and I am struggeling to get aruond everyone and we are going through what you would normally call the midway area where the games are (not really big enough to be called a midway but you get the idea) none of the electrical cords were covered up so I had to keep doing wheelies all down the stretch and almost got launched out of my chair once when I missed one of them. We get all the way down to the end and turn around to come back and the same thing with the wheelies over the cords on the way back. It narrows at this point cause the rides go from curb to curb so I have to get back on the sidwalk which the only way on is by me trying to pass through a line of people waiting for one of the rides. Finally make our way through that line and onto the curb but the place where the corndogs are are actually up fairly big hill on grass, so I make my way to the top and find out they dont have soda there so my boyfriend goes back down around the line of people and gets the sodas and comes back so I dont have to get through that mess again.

Anyways after we get our corndogs we are just sitting there eating them and I see another cripple come by in a manual chair. He wasnt able to get to the top of the hill so he stopped halfway up and his girlfriend(?) goes up to get the food and he waits. We see a guy that happens to be walking by at the time and he turns up the hill, grabs onto this guys push handles and starts pushing him! He of course grabs onto his handrims to stop and I hear the guy lean down and YELL in his year telling him "its ok I am trying to push you up the hill" the guy turns and looks at him and tells him to let go of his chair and he is fine. The AB yells back at him like he is def or something and says "its ok I am helping you" to this the cripple pulls ahead to jerk his chair out of the guys hands and says I'm fine, get away from me!

We finish up eating and as I am on my way down the hill the other cripple finishes up and he pulles ahead just ahead of me and I look at my boyfriend and say oh great I get to follow another wheelchair down the curb. He didnt get what the problem was and not 50 ft later what do we here from some dumb ass... you know it "on are you two going to race?" The other guy and his girlfriend ended up stopping shortly after that to talk to someone that they apparently knew so at least we didnt have to deal with more comments like that. We just had to make our way back down to the truck on that dang sidewalk where there was nowhere on or off cause of the parked boats or cars on the shoulders right where there was any openings in the roped off sections. Not as bad as the original post but still frustrating.

I get sooooo sick of the "are you going to race?" question when my mom and I are both out. She's had a stroke and can't walk so she uses a power chair for shopping etc.

Anyway...the 4th of July...our neighbors have 6 kids from about 8 years old to grown with kids of their own so their celebration last night included fireworks and plenty of them. Not a problem. They did quit about midnight when we turned our lights out. But, you should see the mess in the street and up and down the sidewalks today. Did all of those kids and grandkids pick anything up? Of course not. It is a huge mess and so far today it's all laying out there.

Oh that they were just a 4th of July problem!

feds should just make it an observed holiday but not a federal one where everyone gets off work to screw up.
