well i have some sort of unknown progressive conditon on top of my quadriplegic spastic CP
i am currently on 4MG tizanidine generic for Zanaflex which is a muscle relaxant, my muscles are still constantly tight and hurt. would a baclofen pump do any good. should i start seriously looking into it and talking to the doc about it.

i have kyphosis and scoliosis would that make baclofen pump a problem?

I have one and it seems to work when it wants??? I have had it for about half a year now and still have to get the dose raised. I guess it is a good idea it is better then nothing. i heard when they work they are great. dont get me wrong not all of them are like mine, my body just does not seem to react to it.

please elaborate on your situation id like to research your situation... i.e when you got the pump, were there any complications in the OR, what brand of baclofen are you using as each brand has different formulation and medtronic's pump only likes certain "textures" of baclofen.

I got mine in march of this year. I still have not found what dose it needs to be at. Some days it seems like it works and other days its like its not pumping at all. I have talked to my dr about it and i have had x-rays to see if the hose going to my back has came lose but everything looked fine. I didn't know the pumps were so picky on what textures of baclofen i will ask my dr next time im in.

another thing is if you have the money take the Lioresal, which medtronic reccomends for use in their pumps, not to mention it is the most potent of the bunch of baclofens out there. the pumps are very sensitive to the molecular difference in viscosity and "pumpability" and for some reason medtronic tested their pump with all of the baclofens and the pumps just "like" Lioresal

Ok I had one put in 2 years ago.

It was done well. Doseage was looked at repeatedly and could have gone up.

In theory it should have worked!!!!

HOWEVER!!

It caused me MASSIVE pain rubbing against my ribs and digging in every time I moved or twisted.

I couldn't even push!!

My life came to a grinding halt!!

It relaxed my bowels so I was constantly having bowel movements!

TWO YEARS ON!!!

i am sat here a month after having the pump removed!

My stomach muscles still hurt I am praying they recover!

I still have problems with bowel movements!!

I am frustrated, angry, bitter............... etc etc etc

I could go on!!

I have seen some work! Others go very very very wrong!!

Just be aware and talk AT LENGTH with your doctor!!

GOOD LUCK!!
Life is just to short not to have fun!

My husband, Trail-Boss, had one put in Oct. 2006. Seems to be working pretty good. He is still working on different doses, but thats because his body is still changing. His injury was just Jan. 2006. All in all he is very happy with the Pump.

according to medtronic finding a prime dosage can take up to 2 years depending on the person.
