Bump On Bottom. infection control, timeline?

Ive just discovered a golfball size lump(infection) on my rear. It was hot and must have been sore?? over the past few month ive had intermitent pinky red area's in the same spot and put it down to a bit of excess pressure, I did the right thing and kept an eye on it and thought it would just go away like it usually does. It now seems to have been an infected follicle or something? I use a jay active cushion which burst and was repaired after losing an amount of gel. I guess this would add to the pressure on my bum? having ordered a new one a while back I am waiting delivery asap. I'm on antibiotics and complete bedrest and need any advice possibly as i'm an athlete and have a important event coming up in september.......!!
Cheers.

Hi johnboy,
I have only just spotted your post - I had a similar thing years ago, a large hot, inflamed hard lump on one of my buttocks - that was also due to some kind of infection. Once I spotted it I stayed in bed, was given antibiotics - the first ones prescribed I was allergic to so had to change - and just had to 'sit it out'. I was in bed/ lying on my side on the settee for a total of 5 weeks, but it did go and fortunately has never returned.
I had used a foam cushion prior to that but purchased a Jay Active whilst still in bed. The only thing I have had since are a couple of boils but they have been pretty central, close to my privates, so haven't stopped me being up and about in my chair as there is not much pressure there.
Hope you manage to get rid of your bump soon. All you can do stay off it as much as possible. Take care.

Thanks for the reply, ive had a spinal nurse come to see me just to check it out and it a ischial tuberosity bursitis that has become infected. She has been fab and managed to sort out some pressure mapping of cushions(never had it done before) to try to find the best for my butt. spookily enough the new active that ive ordered has just arrived aswell so its cushions and testing allround. She advised me to get up for an hour next week then gradually increase day after day starting on a roho cushion to give me the best protection...???
The main thing that ive taken from this is get a new cushion or get tested every year at least and keep a keen eye on any red patches and get anything you find checked out, its better giving a nurse or doc 5mins work than weeks in bloomin bed/sofa.
thanks again, johnboy
