I know that this is primarily a "wheelchair site" but it seems like there are quite a few semi-ambulatory folks on here as well. I use forearm crutches to get around the house with. I have no idea if insurance would pick up the tab on these or not but they were worth the hundred US dollars for them. They are ultra light weight and both crutches weigh less than one of the old metal ones.

I have the "youth" size which only go to 150lbs but the adult size can support 250. I'm not as hard on them as people who only use crutches, but I have bumped into (no not literally my B/F stops me before I actually hit anyone) a few people who do use them all the time and explained I have some @ home but don't really put many miles on them. Everyone I've talked to has said that they seem to take a beating as well as the standard metal kind. My old metal ones would have wear and tear on the cuffs after 18mo. or so, these are just fine aside from a few scratches in the paint (which BTW you can get in a rainbow of colors).

Hope this is helpful to some other semi-ambulatories out there.

Thanks for the info, Wheelie! I recently tried forearm crutches after reading some input on this site, and I really like how they help me get around. :help:

If you like metal forearm crutches, I think you'll be ga ga over these. They are so-ho-ho light. I'm not kidding when I say that one regular forearm crutch weighs more than both of these. :(
The lighter the equipment period the better......chair, crutch, or otherwise.

That site "walkeasy" also does canes. All sorts quad canes and even stuff to go on the bottoms of crutches and canes so that they'll dig into the ice instead of slipping and you falling on your butt. LOL

i have ordered stuff from these guys before they are fantastic! they managed to get stuff to me in the UK in 3 days! yes days not weeks ;) if you are ordering crutches from them dont be afraid that they are a little heavier than standard in my experience that makes them stabler. The other thing is try their "Tornado Tips" for the end of the crutches once you try them its hard to go back! I love them its so much easier to manouver
