I had a normal birth without any pain killers. The only problem I had was my contractions werent strong enough for the job and I couldnt stand up to let gravity help either. However eventually once Id had my waters broken, he popped out. It was all fairly routine, just watch the UTIs which I admit are horrible.
If you take a look at my blog you can see Ive really kept an online diary of it all. Its much easier to read that because I wrote it all as it happened. Now Im trying to remember it. follow the link below.
Either way I have a lovely little boy, so it was all worth it. Dont hesitate to be in touch with me.
cheers

Erin, Erin, Erin,
WHY do you think having a baby with SCI is any different to having a baby without SCI? How did you know you were pregnent last time ? Amazingly its the same. Somehow I think if you miss a period this might be a good indication. Are you talking to a doctor about this? Your questions seem so fundamental, I think you need guidance.
Ive said it before and I will say it again loud and clear, at your level, SCI WILL NOT STOP YOU GETTING PREGNANT NOR WILL IT AFFECT YOUR PREGNANCY, as long as you have good medical care if the first ones were easy the next will follow on. As for giving birth thats something only your doctor will advise on.

I actually did not think I was pregnant at first because I was spotting. However, as I was having hip problems at the time and needed an xray, I decided to take a home test. A faint pink line showed up. I was shocked. I still did not believe I was pregnant because I was still spotting so I went to the doctor and had a hcg test done. It was official; I was pregnant. I continued to spot for three more weeks. (I found out later that I had had twins but one had not developed. I guess that is why I spotted for so long.)
For the first couple of weeks I was fine, but then the typical pregnancy symptoms arrived: morning sickness, painful breasts and utter exhaustion. I was so sick feeling (all day for about 8 weeks) that I was unable to work out for two months, and my walking became even more difficult. Even had I not been sick I was so tired I don't think I would have made it to the gym. I have never been so tired in my life!
As I made my way into the second trimester, thankfully these symptoms eased off, and I was able to start going to the gym again. Out of nowhere a worse symptom appeared. I could no longer pressure void. Where I would push to get started peeing no longer worked. I guess my uterus was in the way. My maternal fetal medicine doctor (a high risk doctor) catherized me to make sure I didn't have any bacteria in my bladder. Now I remembered why I didn't like to self cath; it really hurt! I don't know if I am hypersensitive or what, but that absolutely killed me. I bought some cath supplies but luckily figured out how to void on my own after a couple of weeks.
Now that I was no longer sick and was able to pee again, I started getting excited about the pregnancy. I really didn't forsee any more problems during this trimester, but not forseeing didn't mean that something wouldn't sneak up on me. For the last few days I have been falling down for no apparent reason. I will be walking along and just collapse. I really hurt my knee yesterday and have decided to start using my wheelchair again.
All that being said you should have no problem getting pregnant. I didn't think I'd be able to get pregnant either but did on accident! Hormones control ovulation regardless of a spinal injury.

I know I am not a SCI but don't stress to much about getting prego that will slow you down, it did me. Once I gave up on getting prego, I did both times. The 2nd time I even went on a diet had lost 30 pounds it was the last thing on my mind.
