Hi,

I know I have a UTI currently but don't really want to resort to antibiotics as I'm allergic to loads and the ones I'm ok to take make me really sick. Does anyone have any ideas for getting rid of the infection without antibiotics. I am not running a fever or feeling sick either, I was told that it wasn't necessary to always take antibiotics if this is the case. Has anyone else ever heard this?

Many thnaks

Fran

A lot of doctors wont perscribe anything if you aren't having symptoms with the infection. Its quite normal. I think its their attempt to cut back on antibiotic resistant viruses.
Just increse your fluid intake, and cranberry juice is always your bladders friend

My recipe is regular fluids (including getting up in middle of night) plus balance of exercise and rest, ie keep away from stress from obsessive work but don't rest too much.

Loads of water and cranberry suppliment pills.

Do this all the time and you will have fewer UTIs,,,,or so I'm told every time I get one.

yep completely covered already. lots and lots of water, not just to get over the UTI, but would help not to get one again, and just better for you all around. cranberry juice too. not the coctail, plain ol cranberry juice. i was told once that it's an acid, and one of the only if not the only liquid that remains an acid as it travels to the kidney and bladder. If that's true, I'm sure that is what helps kill the bad stuff.

I have one now, with a bladder and kidney infection.
I'm taking fluids, cran, and anti-biotics.
I wish you the best.
But, keep those fluids going!

Dear Fran,
You can take Acidophilus to help your system stay in balance. It is a good bacteria that often wipes away bad bacteria by simply eating its food.
There are a group of drugs known as anti infectives that you can take such as D-Mannose and Mendelamine. These work great but you need to check urine pH regularly because they depend on a slightly higher acid environment. It is a discussion to have with your doctor. Gradually building up your vitamin C intake can make life hard on bacteria in your bladder. Thats the active ingredient in cranberry juice. Theres some rules to checking your urine pH. You can get test strips and virtually do 90% of your own lab work.
I hope you feel better soon.
