Given my off and on battle with AD, I really need to get some. Is it available OTC, or is it prescription only?

Do you know what is triggering your AD? Can you not try to prevent the 'attacks' with careful management of bowel, bladder and skin?

If you need it on a regular basis why not ask your Doctor for a prescription? An 11.2g spray contains 200 doses so it would last you quite a while.
I don't believe you can buy it over the counter in the UK, but as with just about everything you can buy it over the internet without a prescription!!

If you're having A.D. during bowel movements, ask your doctor to prescribe 2% Nitro Bid Ointment which you'd use only during your bowel problem. You can only use it during times when your blood pressure is up.

Hi, I am with the others, i would respectfully suggest that you and your drs try and find out what is causing/triggering your AD.

Also, I am sure that this is the case, but you need to be very certain that it is AD before using a drug such as GTN. Like I said I am sure that you know better than anyone if you are experiencing AD, but I would suggest that it is investigated. Just my 2 pence worth! LOL..

I just wanted to answer your q and give some background info, which again I am sure you are well aware of, but I am a trained RN with no RN job to do now I am a crip, lol, so humour me! LOL. I just want to mention it anyway, Here goes:

Here in the UK, GTN ( Glyceryl TriNitrate) spray, buucal suscard tablets etc are not available over the counter,
Frankly I would be surprised if they were in the USA, Canada, NZ, Australia etc etc as they are medications which should only be taken under the direction of a Physician or adequately qualified Nurse/other professional.

As you know, they work by lowering your blood pressure. They do this by dilating the major blood vessels which go to the heart ( and brain etc) and this lowers the pressure as more blood is able to rush through a bigger tube ( if you like).

of course when someone has AD, or has Angina ( the primary indicator for GTN and other Nitrates) this is what we want to and hope to happen. However, when this is used in someone with a normal/low Blood Pressure, it can result in Fainting, syncope and in some cases some people become very unwell.


I hope that you figure out what is causing your AD and more importantly, that you sort it.
