Hi everyone! I am L-1 para and I have a roho cushion. I am having a problem here in Florida with my butt sweating. I was wondering if there is any kind of cooling cushion or anything like that out there. Also has anyone mowed their grass? I can barely push my chair through the grass but would love to figure out a way to mow! Also was wondering if anyone knows of anyone that has been in an accident or whatnot and had paralyzation and has walked. Just curious.

In FA humidity I think you may just have to take some time off and lay on your stomach and allow your butt to "air". I suppose you could try sticking a FLEXIBLE ice jell thingy (I'm so technical) wrapped in pillow case or something; just thin enough material to allow the cool but thick enough to protect bottom. If you don't have sensation I'd be REALLY careful with that idea. If you stuck a towel in the freezer you could make yourself an ice pack that shouldn't hurt your skin or your cushion (some are air or jelled so punctures are a problem). I still think taking 5 or 10 min to lie on your belly and give your butt a break is the best op. for more reasons than just being to humid.

Hi T-Crip

My mom took one of those absorbant pads like they use under people in the hosiptal and cut it down a little less than the size of ROHO so when I sit on it, it doesn't show like I'm sitting on a "pee pad". She bound it around the edge and it works great! It's substantial enough that it doesn't bunch up or anything like trying to sit on terrycloth etc.

If you don't have any, most medical equipment stores carry them or I always look at Dr. Leonard's catalog first because medical type stuff is cheaper. You can get that catalog online too:

I met a man who works at the Milano Inn in Indianapolis, IN who was in an auto accident I believe when he was young and they told his mother that he was complete and would never walk again. I don't know what level his injury is. He does have a residual limp but after long hard therapy and work he is on his feet. I would guess that he is probably in his 40's now. Very nice man and one of our favorite Italian restaurants in Indy if anyone ever has the chance to visit us here in the Midwest.

All I can say is good luck with that mowing! I'd suggest the nearest teenager down the street!

I use a medical quality sheepskin on top of my Roho. I know this takes a little away from the performance of the Roho but I think A sweating butt isn't good for you.

Put a bit more air in the roho. It will give you a little more air space to work with and a little room for circulation under there.

It might make balancing a little harder, but you can let it out again when the basketball game starts.

Whatever you do, avoid the beaded seat covers made for car seats. I tried one early on in my seated career, and after twenty minutes had a waffle shaped ass.

hahahah! Yeah like the technical terms there! Don't you think someone should INVENT something that is specific to us? I need a cool butt!! HA! Yeah I do try to go inside or get off of it but I tell ya it takes a lot longer than 5-10 minutes to cool it down! Thanks for the tips!

Aw! One of my favorite peeps! Yeah that sounds like an idea....these cushions just don't absorb or breathe. They used to be called chux but I don't think they call them that anymore.

Thanks for the story! Man! I LOVE to hear that! Iam not even a year out yet but I still have a lot of hope.

hahahaha!! Yeah I COULD do that!! I love a challange though!

I am trying an absorbeez like on the commercial. My butt sweats on this roho, too. So far so good. It is only the second day. I've never seen anyone muraculously start getting back function. Most people that get function back start getting it in a the first 10 days after the injury. I met a guy that claimed to have been healed after 7 years as a paraplegic in a wheelchair, but when his story was investigated it turned out to be a hoax. Every now and then someone will tell me how going to a faith healer would solve my problems. I just figure if they went then they missed the point about faith. If they really believed then why did they go to get proof?

I have to agree whith john, I got movement back about 5 days after my fall but due to the spaticity I am in my chair most of the time.
