Hello all...
This is my first posting. My old man is a C6/7 quad since a car accident 7 yrs ago. Over the past year or so, he's started having longer and more painful BM programs. We are constantly watching his diet & take bowel softeners & such - but regardless of what we seem to do, his programs are seeming to last 5 to 8 hrs every other night. On top of that...he has been having extremely painful gas with a lot of bloating on his off days. It's really bringing him down - as well as keeping him almost confined to the house for fear of embarrasing gas! Surprisingly - we had not heard of the Magic Bullet untill i started reading this forum today! Needless to say - I'm ALL OVER IT!!

We have been researching somthing called the P.I.E. machine...aside from it being CRAZY expensive, we haven't actually heard from anyone who's used it. Here is the link if you're interested: http://www.piemed.com/
Has anyon checked this out personally??

Nat

I'm afraid I don't have much help, but I would like to welcome you aboard the forum. Shame on your rehab center for not better equipping you for this situation. Diet may be your easiest variable to adjust but others with C levels may know better solutions. The P.I.E. appears dependant on that reflex (which i can't remember the name of) necessary for the dil method (digital stim).

Oh yea I had to chuckle at the name of the P.I.E. If it works awesome!!! but the name made me think of the pasture pie generator... that goes moo with the :(

Something about that machine doesn't sit right with me. If they were safe AND effective wouldn't they be recommended everywhere? Can't that push bacterias around to places they shouldn't be? And that before and after picture...that guy pooped 40-something pounds of crap...and got a tan? I'd do tons of research before forking over cash for something like that. Maybe consult a doctor.

The magic bullet, however...i'm glad you're going to look into it, hopefully they'll work =]

I have had quite a few problems with that. Don't know if you may have tried that already, but I have 3 to 4 times a week a yoghurt with flax seed. If things really don't go I ave a prune-Senna capsule. The flaxseed keeps things soft and going. Must say it is also very cheap.

[font=Book Antiqua][color=#6600CC]Thanks for the welcome! Yeah...I have to say I feel a bit in the dark with alot of this stuff. I just moved here a year & 1/2 ago & until then, my guy's been totally on his own with a pretty wishy-washy home health group. We don't have a rehab center close and until I can get my truck we cant get out really (My fiance's in a motorized chair :help: ). So we are really relying on self research & trial & error.

As far as the P.I.E. machine, it is a weird name for the thing...it was especially funny getting nothing but actual pie-makers when I googled it! lol

Anyway, thanks for the comment!
Cheers

That doesn't seem very safe to me, but I have no experience with anything like that. I can say though that their site almost makes me wonder if its a scam or something...like that picture of the guy that lost all the weight, maybe it just me but that looks like two different people??? I would really suggest that you do lots of research on this, asking docors and such. Good luck with everything though, whatever you do decide I hope it helps you guys

Thanks Doll,
I'll try the flax seed. Do you mix it in your yoghurt or take it in pill form? I just recently found a product from Konsyl called Lactobacillius Probiotic Complex basically it's a helpful bacteria for digestion. Hopfully this will help.

Cheers!

Yeah - well with our meager income I wont be forking over any money for that machine anytime soon! lol...

Yeah - the site changes periodically...the pic with the tan...that's just freaking hillarious - I have to go see that again - never noticed that one! lol Originally my fiance's nurse mentioned that one of his other patients used it and swore by it. But like you said as well...I am very sceptical for many reasons.

Anyway, thanx! :-D

Joes Nat it is ground flax seed and a packet lasts me quite a while. I just put a couple of heaped teaspoons in the yoghurt and mix it. Has a nice nutty taste as well and is quite cheap. You should be able to get it in any good health food shop. Also look for Prune&Senna capsules. I only take them occasionally, but taken in the evening I am sure to go next morning.

If you buy any of the brand laxtives or bio drinks from the big companies they tend to be very expensive. It is often the cheapest most natural things that really help. Makes one wonder.

Thanks Angela~

Do you take stool softeners?
I spend $30 a month on stool softeners.
Will the flax seed be better?
The stool softeners help, but not great.
Will it make you go at unplanned times, on your own?
Like a laxative?
I need it soft, but under my control.

Same questions about the Prune&Senna capsules?

I like doing things natural, but not in my chair.

~thanks~

My sister takes and Goldline brand senna everyday or else she gets really backed up and it literally gets hard. She also gets really bad gas if she doesn't take a senna daily. She started out with the magic bullet in rehab but it just didn't work.
I also agree with watching the diet because milk causes gas and so do a lot of spicy foods.

it is not recommended that you use more than one bullet a day.
How long does your routine typically take?
