People,.. I know I ask silly questions.

Ok now thats out of the way...

So uhm.. I have a cat and she loves me, and I love her, we both have spinal issues. So anyways she follows me everywhere, she has no fear of my chair. In fact, if it werent for her lack of a tail, she would have injuried it already. However she doesnt like sitting in the chair, or in my lap when im in the chair. I hate that. I want her to be my sidekick. Hell I'd get her a sidecar if I thought she would stay in it.

So my question is this; Do any of you have kitty cats that ride in your laps? I know cats are stubborn but they can come around. Im hoping she does, and wondering if anyone elses did.

Sincerely
Desperate Kitty Mom.

Hi Ches..

Well I don't think it's a silly question..

We have 2 cats, both are litter sisters. They are different as chalk and cheese. One is fairly timid and the other thinks she's human..They both pay no attention to my husbands chair. The timid one doesn't sit on anyones lap, infact she's not too keen on being handled at all. The one with attitude does try to sit on my husbands lap, especially if he's at the computer. However we don't encourage it cos she is a bit of a kneader and what with condom drainage and a roho cushion It's too risky.

They are both 11 years old and have been the same all their life.So I would guess your cat will stay the same.

Thats what I like about cats..they don't fake it..love em.!

Hi Ches,

My cat drives me nuts because she wants to be in my lap anytime that she can get to it no matter what I'm trying to do but she doesn't like it when the chair moves and she will immediately jump down.

Then she decided that she wants to sleep on my bed when I'm in it but she wants to be at the top of the bed up around my head. I don't mind her on my lap sometimes but I'd just as soon not have her butt at the head of my bed and she gets all hissy if you try to make her move.

The other night she was laying on my stomach and she wouldn't be still. I had my arms under the covers and everytime she started moving I nudged her. She got mad and started biting the blanket which I thought was funny until I started to pull my hand out from under the covers to pet her and she nailed me and bit my thumb!

In short, cats do what they want to do. My dog generally does what I tell him to do. If she doesn't want to be in your lap I don't have a clue as to what you could do to entice her. You can bribe a dog with a treat. That probably wouldn't work with a cat would it?

She's a loving cat and wants everybody to pet her. She looks like a Persian with Siamese and she has the most beautiful blue eyes. Actually she adopted us. I'd never had a cat before. She came here about 6 years ago and wouldn't leave. One time she disappeared for 10 days and I was heartsick then all of sudden she was back. I don't know if someone had taken her and had her inside or what but I thought if someone did, they must have fed her and taken care of her but as soon as she could she came back to us.

i have 5 siamese they are all different in personnalities my oldest can't resist a warm blanket. you coould try just setting your cat in your lap without moving your chair. then at slow speeds she/he may have to get used to your new environment
Life is one long insane trip. Some people just have better directions.

yeah thats true. I could start out slow. I probably gave my kitty a heart attack last time I threw her in my lap and took off. Shes just being difficult just like a woman. The cat completely trust me. Shes so assured when Im around that ppl often have trouble trying to park outside my house because she will just lay there in the road and look at me like, make em go away. Totally cute lil shit head!

I just love all the little kitty stories and itsjustme i can totally relate to your missing kitty syndrome. One summer I left my kitty with my mom while I traveled all across this god for saken country. When i got back, my mom had to tell me she was missing. I completely broke down, more so than when I woke up in ICU. Anyways we did all we could to find her, went driving around, posted flyers, ad in paper. Eventually she turned up. Some family had kidnapped her. My mom got her back, and before I could get back down to my moms to get her , she had been stolen again. I thought for sure I was gonna die. My mom called shortly after to let me know she had found her. she was at the same place as last time. Apparently someone wanted her, but i wanted her more. I scooped her ass up and brought her to dallas sooo fast!

Dear Desperate Kitty Mom lol

I just adopted a 13 year old rescue cat. Poor thing was in "prison" for 2 months. Although being looked after well!

He "Charlie" now owns the house!

He's at the top then me then Pepper. Bouncy Welsh Springer spaniel!

As has been said. Cats are there own bosses and they own us not the other way round! To an extent they just do as they please!

It is now quite amusing as I'll be going to bed and Charlie comes and sits and stares at me. You can almost hear him saying "for gods sake hurry up"! He then jumps onto my chair and settles down for the night. Although hes in and out!!! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh at times!!

Comically in the morning hes SNORING (no joke) away and I have to wake him up to get up!

This often ends up in a bit of a play fight. Well the scratches weren't really meant!!!
Life is just to short not to have fun!

I don't have a cat but a 12 year old pug that likes to lie in front, behind or beside my chair. He even has got to the point that he trusts me so much that i can wheel right up to him and he just lays there.I can be in the living room close to the couch and he'll get beside me and wait for me to move out of the way. He likes to go under it as well.

Oh yeah,my dog is to heavy to sit on my lap and prefers the couch or floor with his pug blankee anyway.

I have a little toy poodle and she loves my chair! She's getting super lazy because she always likes to ride around sitting in my lap lol. She doesn't have any fear of my chair, she sits on my lap, lays under it, runs along side me, and even sits in it when i'm not. It seems that dogs are more willing to please people than cats though.

I've had cats that loved to ride around on my lap and those that want nothing to do with the wheelchair. I think it just depends on the cat. If you pick it up and put it on your lap hold and pet it while you move a wheel with the other but real slow so it barely notices, do this daily. Best way is to start off ASAP. Be careful of kitty getting too comfy with your chair especially if you've got an air or jell filled cushion or if it likes to scent mark, animals have a disgusting way of saying "mine".
*Enjoy every sunset, but be grateful for every dawn.*
*Wheelchairs are made of a special ocular magnetic alloy......they're "eyeball magnets".*
*I USE a wheelchair, that does NOT make ME a wheelchair!*

When I was living with my parents for awhile my 21yr old cat use to curl up on my legs and stay there while I went around the house. My mom's little dog use to also love going for rides. LOL he would sit up on my legs and wiggle around until I started to move, then we would go to the window so he could look outside, and he'd jump off on the couch when he was done.

Try just holding your cat and petting her without moving. Try it when she's tired, or sleeping so she will want to curl up. After awhile try moving a little while you are still petting her. Feed her a treats, and the second she shows you she's not liking it stop moving. If you get her stressed out she wont want to do it. After awhile she wont mind at all. :licklips:

I don't have a cat personally - mainly because you expect a dog to worship you and cats expect you to worship them - but my friend has a cat who loves me since I have "permanent" lap. But her cat is also very people friendly to begin with.

Meanwhile, its rare that my own dog will jump in my lap but most because he's a little fatty (near 20lb chihuahua/mutt/pound dog... who's bigger than a normal sized chihuahua thankfully). He's not afraid of the chair or anything though.

Hubby & I have 5 cats (Raz, Sammy, Courtney, Molly & Abby) - Abby doesn't do much but sleep under the couch all day and Molly hides in our closet all day, until evening when she comes out and likes to sleep on our bed (they both have crazy psychological issues). The other three are out and about all day and love being social & on our laps.

All of them love to ride on our laps. We only had Raz since he was a kitten, so who knows why riding around on our laps doesn't freak our cats out but it freaks out yours.

Maybe try little movements in the chair with your kitty. Slowly build up to moving around the house.

I have a pekingese that loves to ride on some days and others seems afraid of the chair. He's 2yrs oldand weighs 14lbs so it's hard for me to lift him up if he gets skiddish of the chair. He doesn't leave my side though where ever I go he is. Very loving and loyal. You might have a problem with claws with the cat. I agree to try him slowly, but watch the claws!

I volunteer at an animal shelter here in Madrid. We got a paralysed kitten a couple of months ago, too. It can often be from from malnutrition. If you feed her a good kitten diet, she might recover some function. But they have bowel issues, same as humans....

Good luck

When I was in 2nd grade I had a kitty named Kim. Kim used to follow me to the bus stop, and one unfrotunate morning Kim got caught in the way of the traffic. My mom found her on her way to work, shortly after I left for school. SHe went to vet, apparently everything was fine, but Kim was paralyzed. The vet and my mom wanted to lay her down, but my mom decided I needed to say goodbye. So she brought Kim home, after school that day when I got the news I freaked. I ran to Kim and swore I would never let her go. I spent all the evening and following day by her side, putting food up to her mouth, bathing her after every "accident" and completely unable to realize how sad that poor little kitty was. My mom couldnt bare it, she took two days later while I was at school. I dont know why I just typed this. Just wanted to share..

Are the paralyzed kitties.. para or quads? And, is that what u call them? My kitty was a quad, but I've seen and met some para cats in my life that seem ignorantly bliss in their condition.

I dont know..?!

My cat loves to 'perch' atop my w/c headrest while I'm tooling around the house. When he was little, it was a lot cuter, but now he looks like a huge buzzard sitting there...how he hangs on, I don't know, because I get pretty wicked on the thing sometimes when I'm really busy. He jumps on as I'm passing by, then disembarks at his desired destination....lazy boy. :P Needless to say, my headrest looks like a pin cushion now. :)

He also likes to lay in the seat when I'm not using it. I'm lucky that he doesn't knead the seat, as it's gel-filled.

He has a bad habit of trying to race me through the doors to different rooms. One of these days I'm afraid I'll do a number on him, but it's a good thing that he's much faster than I am. :P

My cockatiel also likes to perch on my headrest, which can be worrisome when I forget he's there and go to open the front door for whatever reason. I managed to run over and kill our first cockatiel...it was absolutely horrible. I still have flashbacks. :(

Lonely Para Girl....could it be that your cat is in pain? Has it been assessed for pain?
