I’m presuming many members love music and movies and I’m wondering what kind of equipment you’re using to play it.

About a year back I bought myself a home theatre surround system. Speakers and cords all about the room. Good for movies but for my taste it fell short on music. So I’ve got rid of it and gone back to two-speaker hi-fi with an all-Rega system. Love it.

After people and pets, my sound system is my next best friend. We get together over lunch and usually again late into the night.

I bought a nice new 42" Bravia early in the year, so now I'm looking at Home Cinema sytems.

I'm looking at KEF's KHT 2005 system, hooked up to a DSP-AX861SE Digital Home Theatre Amplifier.

Sadly, my days of slapping vynil onto my Logic Tempo, Mordaunt Shorts and Denon amp are gone.

I'm sure my daughter would of loved records!

CD's are alot more robust, for both me and my daughter.

For day to day music, I play all my music from my laptop, hooked up by WiFi to a Denon amp, and Bose speakers in the conservatory.

Regards

Simon.

Here's my setup...
http://www.lilcube.c...ment_center.jpg
Pioneer 5.1 surround system that is in need of upgrading. Had about 7-8years. Don't use the CD player anymore, I just stream my music through my XBox360 from my laptop. Was saving for a super badass(and expensive) Aperion system then decided against it as I can think of better things to spend 3 grand on :poo: So for now, I'm happy with my current setup.

I tell myself I’m waiting for LCD and plasma plus the new high definition plus the DVD-HD and BlueRay battles to mature before going big flat panel. The truth is I can’t afford it at the moment. Meantime, I’m rather fond of my crt setup.

That Yamaha/KEF system should please for movies.

I gave away my vinyl some years back when going through a period of not wanting to own anything. Another of my exciting experiments with life (we do learn from mistakes, don’t we?). I have no desire to go back to vinyl and pretend I can’t hear hifi buffs when they rave about its sound. I like the convenience of CDs.

Lilcube,
that’s one immaculately organised entertainment system that appears to give mind boggling versatility in an easily controlled area. Good stuff.

The move from CD player to using the computer as a source seems to be the way it’s going. I use my Rega Apollo CDP lots cos it delivers such a beautiful sound but that set up (with Rega R5 spkrs and Miro3 amp) is in my bedroom. In the lounge I’m using my computer connected to a Marantz amp and Mission spkrs.

One day when I can delude myself into thinking I can afford it, I want to get a decent DAC between the computer and amp to lift the quality. At the moment I’m using a cheap Chinese Trend DAC which is ok but not fantastic.

Is anyone using wireless with their sound?

I find the metal in my wheelchair interferes giving ‘orrible static noise depending on where I am in the room.
So I’m wondering about wireless connection between computer and sound system amplifier, such as Apple’s Airport Express (to get away from all those tangley wires).

Do others have this problem? Any easy solutions?

That's exactly what I use, with no problems.

Darn. Now I'll have to seriously consider it.

Really nice especially when my nephew is here. He can play games while I still watch TV or play a game of my own. Or when I'm alone, watch TV and play a game at the same time. I do that alot during baseball season.

Wow lilcube nice setup. I have the good old CRT as well, 28 in I think with a built in VCR/DVD but i always use my X box for DVD's. I also tied in my aiwa shelf system and my amplified Cerwin-Vega 10". It does allright and makes my living room vibrate now i just need to tie it into my computer system... i take it that this isn't too hard.. is that what the DAC is for?

P.S. cube whats your X box gamertag? Mines Brambozzle, I'm gonna start a thread askin people to post theirs.

All I had to do was connect the xbox360 to my amp with supplied cords, then connect my laptop via a router to my 360.

Without a 360 I have no idea how to connect a PC to a stereo.
