my partner has a stage 2 sore on his bottom where there is a scare due to sore they had to close.
he came to stay with me for 2 weeks as it was a stage one. so i went out and bought manuka honey and we used it everyday. with the bed rest and the honey it began to heal well and i was only putting it on once a day. so we were happy. when we went back to where he lives the nurse told us not so use it as its for cut and ulsers and it wasnt sterile.
so we stoped using it.
since then the wound has become bigger and more agressive.
should i start up with the manuka again and if anybody out there has used it can they tell me how many times a day should i be putting it on and why a nurse would want us to stop when it was looking so good.
any help would be gratefull

Hi There....im using that honey at the moment for a sore and its doing good things for me. It is a primary wound dressing with active honey ...do you get it from the chemist or from a shop??

The company name that makes it for medical use is called Advancis medical...so get your nurse to get some for you....its there job so make them do it!! hope that helps

It's probable your nurse that doesn't know what she's talking about and needs to do some reading. My understanding is that the honey has some antibiotic properties that keep it pure. It's been widely used around the world for years in healing pressure areas and I'm pretty sure that hasn't changed. But you need more reliable information than I can give.

i got the honey from a health shop and its the one from newzeland its 16+ and as i said it was working just fine.
the nurse did give us some honey in a sterile pack, and it looked like a thin peice of honey comb, we did try this but she put it on and within 24 hours it had moved up his buttock on to the rim of the good skin and it did more damage and thats one of the thing that made the sore bigger. so we stoped that straight away, but when i asked the nurse if we could stick to the manuka she said no just leave it heal.
i really want to start the manuka again but
i really dont want to put her nose out of joint as she has been really helpfull in the past
thank you for you replys

Hi
We think the nurse told you to stop using it as they're not licensed to use it but the patients advocate she should at least look into it more. You should ask her based upon what evidence does she say this? All statements like that have to be backed by evidential research. This stuff can deal with mrsa yet isn't sterile, so how does the nurse explain thay?
The research on the manuka honey website (link below) clearly totally contradicts her statement.
We have seen manuka honey work well on someones sore and were 1st alerted to it by a client who healed a sore with it.
We throughly recommend you recommence its use and do whatever you were doing before in terms of length of time between changes of dressing - it worked once! You will see from the reasearch there is no optimum time, various research projeccts has used different time lengths - all with success.

Scroll through the info here its v interesting

Good luck
