I use surfak stool softener, which is expensive, and still hard.
Not all that great.

Trying to find something better.

What works to make your bowel softer? move easy?

I don't use any stool softener. I used it in the hospital, but my body just couldn't handle it. I do a lot better without it. Is there anyone else here who don't use anything?

I just thought I'd mention by "anything" I mean "stool softeners". I still use the Magic Bullett.

Fruit and veg.

If I want a really good clearout the next day, it's got to be a rare steak, and half a bottle of red wine.

It works every time!

Ok, I know, too much info! :)

That's what I love about this site, there's no such thing as "too much info".

I use nothing at all, either. Of course,I like mine a bit firmer ( see above).

no softners...just lots of fiber and lots of fluids, When Ben was in The hospital, they had him on softners and on miuralax...not good, once home we tried different things and found the best was to eat a good fiber rich diet and dring plenty of water.

Balancing the diet has always been my drug of choice. However a good hot cup of coffee gets things moving when assistance is needed.

Well it looks like foods and drinks work for some. I met a guy in hospital for whom an orange worked well. Sadly nothing like that works so, for me, its the bran and some sort of laxative. A tea made from dried senna leaves is quite good and not that odd a taste

I agree with the beer recco. Also, a ride in a small boat. But a beer and a boat ride is too much. Don't ask, take my word.

We should use fibre rich diet like cereals, vegetables low protien diet and should consume lot of fresh fruits.salad should consist of unpeeled cucumbers, inner part of cabbage and a warm glass of milk at bed time.Avoid too much tea and coffee.Consume plenty of fluids like water,juices...
I am sure it will work ....

Thanks guys, I appreciate all your answers.

I know your diet & lots of fluids is #1.
But there lies the problem.
I'm 5'2", quad---no exercise, hence not "low" but "no" metabolism.
I have to stay on Atkins, not to lose weight,
but to keep from gaining weight.

Seriously,
I do eat healthy,
but I can only eat a little each day,
and I can't eat carbs at all, or I gain.
So I do eat salads,
but no bread, cereal, nuts, fruits.
All the good bulk that makes yor bowels move good.

So what do I do now, stool softners?
I'm afraid to take laxatives.
Those that do take laxatives, do you have accidents in your chairs?

What do you use after eating and drinking right?
I'm looking for a remedy besides stool softeners.
Something that will keep it soft, but will not create accidents.

Something that keeps me in control.

THANKS! Kay
:D
