Hi all,
I'm getting stronger in my legs now and want to use the crutches a lot more than I am. The only thing that's stopping me is the thing of sitting down. Nowhere has nice soft padded seats around here, and would mean I'm sitting on hard plastic/wooden chairs. I don't have any mass left on my butt with muscle wastage and when sitting down I'm siting on my bones, and am paranoid about pressure sores.

What do you guys do? Please help as I feel I'm being held back here :yahoo:

Cheers guys,
Simon

got teh same problem... at someone's house, they offer to get a pillow or something. other than taking a pillow or pad or seat cushion with you, thers not much you can do. I can sense when it hurts, and I can shift a little, but mostly I just have to take a break from sitting now and then.

My brother gave me the coolest birthday present this year for this very reason: a self-inflating camping pillow. I can't remember the company that makes mine, but it's basically like a Therm-A-Rest pad, only pillow-sized.
Deflated (done by opening the valve and rolling it up), it fits perfectly in my bag.

I'd recommend going (in person or online) to an outdoor equipment/camping store and seeing what they have/can order in the way of camping pillows.

:shitfan: Same here.

I usually just try to stand up and walk around as often as I can. Because I have an obliquiated pelvis, I only sit on one hip, so my entire weight is on that one bone...the other hip hovers about two inches from the seat. It's been that way all of my life, so my skin has 'hardened' on that spot...still I have to keep a close watch on it.

So while I have muscle/tissue wasting on my right side, the left side is fairly normal in bulk. I guess I need 1/2 of a butt pillow! :P I could never sit on the edge of a cliff....if a strong gust of wind came up, I'd probably teeter-totter right over. :yahoo:

I'm really liking the pillow Cheshire has described...portable and light-weight. I'll have to check it out. Thanks! :)
