My best friend lives in Austin and I got to go spend a week down there with her just 2 months before I became paralyzed and I LOVE Austin! I even saw Leslie walking down the street in one of his more discreet long skirted fashions. Well, it was January, a bit cooler even though there were flowers blooming. Didn't have the pleasure of meeting him as we were just passing in the car.

We visited Hippy Hollow which is a whole other story. Debbie and I have a picture that a very nice young man took of us while we were there. We were fully clothed, I just want to add, but HE WASN'T!

I could have spent a fortune on bright and colorful Mexican influenced Southwestern art but I just couldn't haul it all home on a plane. And, food, food and music everywhere from barbecue to taquitos!!!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE AUSTIN, TEXAS!!!

I live in Houston, but have been to Austin several times. I love that city. Have you ever been to SXSW? I haven't myself, but plan to one of these days!

I live in Austin and wouldn't care to live anywhere else!

You just missed another infamous ACL fest, Batfest, and a couple other events. BUT, there is always something going on here!

The bats fly every night for another several weeks, there are tons of museums, fun movie theaters, lovely parks, concerts, plays, and tons more to do.

Anytime is a great time to visit the live music capital of the world! :-)

My nephew lives in Austin and loves it. It's well suited to his lifestyle. He attends a church that serves beer during the sermon! :yahoo: Which is just nutty enough to make me think that I'd like to live there too :shitfan: ...although I no longer drink beer, I do like the openess that Austin seems to have. Hopefully, I'll be able to visit him sometime.

The next time I talk with him, I'll ask him what's up for Oct.

The Batfest sounds great!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE AUSTIN, TEXAS!!!

My husband then & I moved to Austin in the early 70's,
asked someone cruising for a place to swim,
and they directed us to Hippy Hollow.
We didn't have a clue what was about to happen.
As we were scurrying down the cliffs,
a nude guy walked right up to us.
Of course we turned around and left.
It was a rude awakening to Austin.
But I loved Austin.
Beautiful scenery.

Mad, what are you looking to do in Austin? Party w/ friends? Hang with family? There is a ton to do, just like Justagirl said, you gotta narrow down your search if you know what I mean.
I lived in Austin for a bit and attended school at TSU San Marcos, aka the School on the HIll, I wish I could go back but I dont think I'm ready for those hills yet. I can remember the sting of my calves just from walking to class, I cant imagine a manual chair and backpack. Jesus.
What part of Austin are you guys in? I was off Slaughter.. gotta love South Austin! Im back in Dallas now, not quite as nice, but its home!

I was in Austin over the weekend for my first time, wasn't so great, but then again i was in a vehicle the whole time driving through from Dallas to San Antonio for the event down there last Saturday. Then i had my 2nd trip to Austin, but sadly it was in the car the whole time again on the trip back to Dallas. I enjoy Dallas and have had a blast here, but every one I've ever talked to that has lived in Austin loved it.

One reason I like Austin so much is because of how much cleaner the air is compared to Houston. You've got all the refineries and plants here just pumping away into our air. But when you drive on over to Austin, the difference is amazing. It's just a very pretty city to me. Though I don't think I could actually move away from Houston for anything.

Mad, if there isn't anything big going on while you're there, there's always 6th Street! Haha. If you're into that scene anyway.

Zany- I never been to SXSW. It's in march, correct? Are 5th St, HA!

Ches- I don't have any family in the ATX, I knew two girls shortly from there.. Im down, I know what I want, a party..
Im going on 5th-6th St to hit the clubs and get retarded on vodka. :yikes: Seriously just to have fun...
Im really considering moving there, I hate where I live now... No chair sports or clubs anything...

I live in Austin. Yay! I love it. I've been here almost 11 years now. It's like the bumper sticker says... "I'm not from Texas, but I got here as fast as I could." :-)

Strangely enough I have never been to Austin post injury. All the times I did go to Austin it was before my injury and I was only 14 (younger for family vacations and so forth before being injured). My uncle used to live where Willie Nelson lived... it was beautiful nothing but hills, rivers and wildlife... now that I'm older would be nice to check out the party scene :D
