Thought this might be interesting!

I was 11st 5lbs for about 13 years following my injury, but over the last 2 years, have put on about a stone in weight!

Mind you, I can't say I restrict my diet, although I do think about it.

I gave up chips and snacks, and the worst of it is a few, or so, cold beers in the evening with my husband. All that so I would'nt get quad belly, right.................did'nt work...........and, I swear, some days I feel like I've gained weight. I have'nt actually been weighed since I have'nt been able to balance well enough to do it.

I'm sure with the lack of exercise, I've got a problem. Always had a sluggish thyroid and metabolism, the only way I found to get it going was to get moving. The little I can walk now, probably does nothing for me.

HMM are you asking do we eat the same or more or less as we did before we were injured or before a couple of years ago or just in general?

I was 16 when I was injured so I ate what ever the hell I could get my hands on and didn't think twice about it and I was trying to put on weight for football but never got over 180. That was 17 years ago though...

I’m a bit long in the tooth to compare pre/post SCI, but I don’t think I changed my eating habit much till a few years ago when it finally dawned that I not only didn’t need such big meals but I felt much better with less. I’m more active with lighter meals, don’t miss the binge feeds, and I’ve put on 2kg over the last 30 years.

i've been normal really. I was active at time of injury, and I was eating whatever I saw. I did that after injury and gained. I stopped eating so much and lost. now I'm very active again, and I'm eating slightly more and losing, but it's the activities.

I had to give up smoking, so I snack all the time to keep my hands busy. plus since my fall, I have slowed way down. not allowed to work, can't stand to be on my feet due to the spaticity. all this equals 40 lbs. in 18 months.

Upon discharge from rehab, I had lost quite a bit of weight. I was 92 lbs., soaking wet...my normal weight was around 110. And I had a good appetite while in rehab. Once I saw that scale, I began ordering all the desert they'd let me have.

Now I'm back to my normal weight...the 'furniture' has been moved around a bit, but I weigh the same. I've always been a maintenance eater anyway...in the morning and afternoon I only eat because I know my body needs it, not because I'm hungry. Having to take the time to eat just annoys me for the most part.

I voted that I eat less and am the same weight - but that wasn't always the case. For the first 8/9 years post injury I ate the same and piled on weight, but since dieting a few years ago and losing around 2 stone I have managed to keep the weight off, so now I eat less than pre-accident and weigh around the same as then.

well my injury was 20 years ago. Before injury I was maybe 165 pounds (female, 5 feet 7). I lost a lot of weight immediately post injury and have never gained all of it back not that I wanted to. Since then it's fluctuated between 106 and low 130s. In 1989 I had an operation where I didn't eat normally for about 2 weeks and people told me how wonderful I looked so I felt bad...I have to eat nothing to look good? But after I went back to school I was so active just pushing my chair around and dragging heavy books around, and then having a baby and doing housework, not having a car so I push the chair around a lot.... I've never had a weight problem. Also I have always (most of the time) been a pretty healthy eater since the injury. At the time of my pregnancy (13 years ago) I was 111 pounds and I gained only 15 pounds with pregnancy because of vomiting a lot. Right now I am 107 pounds. I eat mostly vegetables, fruit (never constipated), bread, rice, pasta, potatoes, cereal, a little bit of meat, peanut butter, tuna fish. I lost weight after I laid off juice, snack foods, chocolate. I also have been undergoing a lot of stress which might be keeping my weight down. I may be a little underweight but I think it's better than overweight.. Only thing there's not much padding on my butt to protect against a pressure sore and if I were to have a major illness I don't have any reserves.

I eat way more now but I burn it off because everything takes so much more energy to do. I call going to the bathroom: the 20 minute workout. Lifting oneself all over is so much work. I'm only 105 lbs but I benchpress myself all day long. I bump up and down stairs and crawl alot.

Housework is crazy work. Lifting myself onto the floors to wash them. I try to stand when I make the bed but I have to hold on and I walk around the bed at least 6 times to get it right. Laundry is nuts.

I started walking with a walker (just at physio) in March. I switched to forearm crutches earlier this month but even a walk in the park burns tons of calories. I have to clip my hair up and wear short sleeves because I'm always sweating when I walk. It's hard work. One nice thing is that I get to enjoy about 3 tubs of Haagen Dazs ice cream a week...something I couldn't before. smile.

I lost 25lbs while in rehab and only gained five back. I eat about the same amount, but I've added fruit to my breakfast, lunch, and sometimes dinner (where I've always had veggies).

I refuse to say my weight hahahaha a women never tells! I eat less cause the pain makes me nauseated, and thus far I have been dropping a little weight but it's not the good kind of loosing since its from lack of food, I still eat junk!! If I gave up the cigs I am sure I would gain some of it back, well then again maybe not.

I also work out like a pack horse so I have gained a ton of muscle weight so I'm sure If I really looked at my body fat I have lost a lot more then what the scales tell me...

I gained some weight in the hospital, had to quit smoking with the collapsed lungs and all..

Starte smoking again, like any good fiend.. Weight went back down. Im the exact same size I was before the accident. Size wise. Not sure about the weight. Havent been weighed since I left the hospital.

My diet hasnt changed much. Ive always ate light and preferred liquids to solids. Maybe that has something to do with it.

Has something to do with why yer in the chair.LOL
Sorry boo, couldn't help it.

I eat more than I did, a lot more. But it's had no effect on me what so ever. Except maybe I've gained a pound or two.
But that's it. Just one or two pounds TOPS.
