I want to make a trip to a big city across the US but i want to fly out. The problem with that is i cant rent a car because i am not 25 ( i think thats the age required). Does anyone know if theres a loop hole since i need hand controls an cant just get in any car and drive.

Not all car companies require you be 25yrs old. What is your age?

Enterprise will let you rent when you are 21 for all states, some states are younger such as NY you only have to be 18 to rent from Enterprise. You might want to call them for age requirements in the state you are traveling to if you are under 21 to see if they go younger in that state as well.

National and Thrifty will let you rent if you are 21.

Alamo & Budget will rent to you if you are 25 for privately owned locations but they have some corporate owned locations that will rent to you if you are between 21-24, age set specifically by the corporate location.

If you havent yet done so, might want to give Enterprise a call and see what the minimum age is for the state you are traveling to. In some states they will rent to you if you are under 21.

Yes they will rent a car with hand controls. I havent rented from them since I started using them but they all the major rental car companies (all those listed in my original post) do offer hand controls and do mention it on their website. Although all of them I believe ask that you give them at least 2 days notice to guarantee that they will have a car with hand controls available.

thats cool, I'm not alowed to drive yet but I would like to get a set of hand controls and do some trial runs(it will be in a field or somewhere safe) I don't know if my hand would alow me to operate the controls though.

Kev-O, one other thing. If you rent from Hertz, ask for an economy and then tell them you want hand controls (make sure it's after you ask for economy). They don't fit them onto their economy vehicles, they only put them on mid-sizes. They'll charge you for economy - there was a class-action lawsuit over it. Drive safely!
Life is short, art long, opportunity fleeting, experience treacherous, judgment difficult -- Hypocrites.
