I was reading what you guys were saying about being fitted for you chairs and their life expectency June of last year had to go buy mine, being new to this I didn't know that you needed to be fitted for them, or that insurance would pay. this is nice to know since I ended up paying out of pocket for mine the rentalthat I got from the hospital was an Invirocare don't remember the model but it was big and bulky and heavy. I ended up going to a medical supply over in Iowa, they had this invirocare 9000xt it is abit smaller and a lot lighter. but I am having problems with my lower back feeling sore and tired. the hieght is okay I think with out the foot rests I sit flat.(my knees are level with my hips) this is the thing -- I'm not in it for short jonts were I know I can hobble and stagger around to(about a 100 yards) I have this spaticity problem real bad that my big toe wants toe curl under and my foot wants to go straight at the ankle(like a drop foot) so for longer trips I take it with us. I use it at home to sit at the table and computer because I can't seem to keep my ballence in the regular chairs. and now I'm going to be tested for the baclofen pump and probly getting it put in I'm told it will weaken my muscles even more. so I know I'll be inthe chair more often. what I'd like to know is what type of chair should I go for. I can get the Dr.'s approval with no problem and medicaid should cover it. I don't have much grip in either hand so I would have to get something I could manuever fairly easy. I have a tendency to keep one leg rest off and use my good foot and leg to help propell me but I keep running my toes over(it does't hurt) I'm afraid I might end up screwing my good foot up. does any body have any suggestions?

Are you looking for a rigid or foldable chair?

It would have to be a foldable, that way it could fit in the trunk of our car, I'm in no big hurry, as I said in the beginning, I think that this one is causing my back aches, I have a leak going in my cussion and if the chair is the problem why buy a cussion for it? better to get one for a new chair. I'll probly keep this chair for a back up. after all, I did buy it with my money.

If you want the lightest foldable chair which is close to the performance of a rigid, then the best out there is the TiLite TX.

I saw that one, and I was also looking at the Tilite 2gx , and the AeroX , But I doubt that medicaid would flip the bill for some thing that expencive , I think I need to come down to earth a little, (about 1500 dollars closer to earth)

It might be worth looking at some rigids. My Quickie Ti is quite small when the back is folded and the wheels taken off. My so reckons it is easier to put in his boot (we call the trunk boot in the UK, or is it you you in the States call it trunk) than the folding one I had.

The performance is much better if you can fit a rigid in the car.

:scooter: i like the look of the ti lite, are any of you that use it drivers? if so do any of you lift it across you into passenger seat of car? how easy is it? i have a quickie millenium 2 chair but the frame makes it difficult to lift across me and i find it quite heavy

the question still remains: Would medicaid/ medicare pay for a chair that expensive? if not I would have to look at some thing a whole lot cheaper. Because this goose does not lay any golden eggs.

Oooh, how did I miss this? LOL wrong side, OMG, don't even get me started!!!! I sorta think we are on the wrong side, I mean we had to break away from Britsh Rule, and Summerlands, er, Heaven knows we have to be difficult.

To quote my BBC Close captions suggestion at the beginning of every program, well it is a dif thing, but this one is of my favs...

The following program contains accents you would be more familiar with, had you not thrown our tea into the harbor!!!

I agree Tilite is the best chair out there, but Medicaid is not going to pay for it. A good alternative is the Quickie Ti rigid frame. The back folds down and you will have to take to wheels off but it will fit in the trunk easily. Make sure to go to a wheelchair seating clinic to get evaluated by a PT or OT and talk with them about getting a contoured back instead of the soft back for better support. Also, check out the DME companies to make sure to get one that has a good service record and does not charge for house calls for service. Hope this is helpful.
