How Does One Discuss Religion?

On the topic of Religion, there are many diverse views as we are all well aware. Would anyone agree with me that the forum can sometimes get like a free for all, similar to what one may find down at the local bar whilst having a beer.
What usually happens on those occasions is; "here's what I think" etc etc.
Would it not be more appropriate to include the Bible itself in our discussions. In that way, we can back up what 'we think' with a scripture or two. That way if we say what we think, (that is of course, our entitlement) and back it up with a scripture, then our comments should hold more weight.
To that end, to prevent going all around the houses as it were, perhaps we could raise a paticular Topic: such as
Why Do We Grow Old Get Sick And Die?
What Happens To When We Die?
Are We Living In The Last Days?
Why Does God Allow Suffering?
What Is God's Kingdom?
Etc Etc.
If we discussed one particular topic at a time and used the scriptures to back up anything we state or to answer any questions posed, we would be moving forward with a 'quality' forum. Does anyone agree?

Don't forget, though, that others who are not Christian would be unlikely to join you as they would not be able to agree with the premise of some of the questions you have posed. An atheist could not answer questions about god for example.
Give it go, though, and see how things work out. There seem to be more Christians than Freethinkers so you should have a good pool of posters. I take it this would go in the Cafe as there is not really anywhere else it would fit.

Thanks for your reply wheels:
Yes, you do have a point. But also, consider this, some atheists are are such because they don't think that the Bible can answer questions such as the ones I have posted and therefore think that it is of no benefit to them. If they gave the time to checking if some of these deeper questions were answered to their satisfaction, then they may have second thoughts. No harm in checking, just in case eh!
( I got a bit lost as to where exactly on the site this was to be posted, I intended it to be in the Science and Religion Forum, where I have a few other posts, but I must have made a mistake somewhere along the line. Any idea how I can resolve this?)

I would have thought the Cafe might be the best place for a thread but you could always PM Simon and ask for a new category to post in.

Think you're on the wrong website, as there is no such forum here!
This is a spinal cord injuries forum.
There are no plans to open a Religion forum, as there are plenty of other websites for such discussions.
The focus of this forum is spinal cord injuries.

Just don't think the constant arguments for and against xianity are particularly helpful, if anything they are divisive.

Quite right, there is no religion forum on here, but there are so many questions (check yourself and see) regarding religion, so should we just ignore people whom are searching for answers or try to offer some sort of support. Some feel that religion and suffering are inextricably linked. Are they allowed to ask questions if this is the way they feel?
Like many have said, if someone doesn't want to be involved in a discussion of such nature, they are free not to be and vice versa. Also if someone wants to ask a question of such nature, no caring individual would prevent them from doing so.
