Anyone tried knocking out their wheel bearings and pressing in new ones on their spinergy wheels? Bearings in my wheels have certainly seen better days and need replacing, just trying to get an idea whether this is possible as a do it yourself operation or if special equipment is needed.

I used to do bearing replacement on my bike hubs which look pretty similar but experience is a wonderful thing and if I can benefit from any of yours then so much the better.

russ, I've not tried it with Spinergy wheels but thought you might like to know that this guy has been selling replacement bearings on Ebay for a while now - both sizes. I got them delivered to the UK a few months ago - no probs. Doesn't look like he has them at the moment but he may get them back in.

Thanks for that, worth knowing as he's obviously knocking them out very cheap - the bearings are just standard industrial bearings - easy to get from any local bearing supplier and at a fraction of the cost of a wheelchair supplier so I'll probably go down that route.

I have an old pair of 30 spoke Spinergies that I recently 'rebearinged.' I used two drifts: one to knock the bearings out and a large one to knock them back in. The wheels roll much better now and I didn't damage the wheels during bearing removal/insertion.
