Following on to my post of Nutritional Diet, can I ask Apparelyzed Simon, whether to consider maybe a sub-forum for us here at Apparelyzed, as so little information out there (Internet) for us specifically and following the examples I gave on those 2 books or others, they are aimed at everyone and not specifically whether they would work for us (SCI's). This might just spark us to exchange diets amongst ourselves on this forum, or else you could maybe source from your vast knowledge base someone to write or has written a paper on this for SCI patients?

Very interesting subject and one that has not been researched enough. There is little or no info on nutrition, etc and SCI available any where, just the basic eat lots of fibre, drink water etc.

I'm interested in Food Intolerances and how this may affects SCI's more, as our systems are often more sluggish from being seated all the time, or our digestion is accelorated by apperients etc. I think a lot of the excess weight we carry could be attributed to fluid retention caused by food intolerances, but I can't find any one any where that has any experience on this subject.

I even explored the idea of settng up a "health farm" with weeks dedicated to different disabilities, but can't find anyone with the required knowledge on diet/nutrition and SCI, which is the most important part of this sort of thing.

Hi Dave, thanks very much for reply to this. I think there are many more of us that sit with the same problem.

As a matter of interest i am in touch with Dr Gillian McKeith (of 'You are what You eat' television fame on BBC Prime TV). She has promised to look into this for us, and as soon as I get response from her will pass info onto you via email.

I would also have to agree, we do need a diet and nutrition section.

I have gained 40 lbs since my fall, some of that wieght is due to quitting smoking and boredom.

looks like you may have a muttany on your hands Simon.

Good idea!

I've now added a forum to the health section called Weight Control & Nutrition Following Spinal Cord Injuries.

I'll be importing related topics from other area's to get the forum started.

If you find any stray topics on the forum, let me know so I can move them to the Diet & Nutrition section.

Thanks

Simon.

Well, the topic has been started but noone has posted since. What's up with that?

Susi, if you got anything back from the TV doctor, we would all love to hear about it.

As for me, I'm fatter and heavier than ever, even with the additional exercise time each day. I do eat whatever strikes my fancy, but not nearly what I did before sci.

I saw an ad on tv today for a pill that allows you to eat anything you like and still lose weight.

yeah,,,like i'm gonna believe that...
