Do you feel that your Dr is helpful to your needs as an SCI patient? When I speak with diffrent Dr's a lot of times I find their information to be scattered. A big question many patients and individuals have is complete vs. incomplete from what I have gathered unless your spine is completly cut severed then you can be considered complete other then that anyone that tells you this is it your complete is just BS in the words of Dr's I have talked to. I think that the spine/nervous system is so complex its difficult to get strait answers to questions in a sense this maybe good and bad......On top of the how helpful is your Dr? What are the types of questions you have for you DR?

If I understand your question correctly, are you asking what you should ask the Dr. of your severity? or are you asking questions that can be looked up? I think you got people confused, and they shied away.

If you are wanting to find out about the different types of injuries or what the difference of quads or paras all this can be found in the front of this sight, there is a butt load of info there.
there is a section in there of what parts of the spinal cord conrol the different parts of the body and functions

I hope I have pointed you in the right direction.

My oncologist is great..... My reg doctor.... an idiot savant (now & then)

Oh and the P.A. that thinks the *carpal tunnel syndrom symptoms* I am showing (typing every day, for over 3 years, on a computer at work) is from my CRUTCH.... is a complete moron.

Of all the words, of tongue or pen, the saddest, are these: "what might have been".

Finging a doctor that is willing and capable of communicating with a patient is, unfortunatly, rare.

Finding the above, who is also familiar with SCI is almost impossible.

I may have been fortunate enough, after three years of trying, to have found one. I saw him yesterday and will withhold judgement til I've gotten to know him better.

I, too, am often confused. Not by my own injury, but from trying to understand the perspective of many of the posters, here. I try to keep up with all the new posts, but have some difficulty relating their ideas and suggestions with their description of their own handicap/problem ( not sure I know what is PC here). I never realized what a wide range of abilities were still available to those deemed imcomplete.

Being human, I often find myself envious of those with more mobility than me even if it is only standing and turning or walking 50 feet as I have read about some with a much higher injury than mine.

I'm not sure if any of this has any bearing on the question asked. I just started rambling and couldn't stop.

Sorry about that!

I think it is hard to find a doctor who truly knows/understands the many kinds of pain someone with sci suffers, some on a daily basis.

Sci injuries can be so different, it is probably hard for a doctor to tell you what to expect. I drove myself nuts trying to find info after I was diagnosed and the fusion surgery. I've learned more on this site (and one other) than I have from any medical person.

I'm one of the oddities with a C4-5-6 injury and DDD at L4-5 and can walk with a cane. It ain't pretty by any means, but I get by. I think I could do better if the neuropathic pain could be controlled. I've heard that incompletes usually experience quite a bit of pain. There again, probably depends on the individual.

Mine is amazing, he is an interest, osteopath and family Dr. and has SKILLS.
He spotted my wife's pituitary tumor from her blood work!
These often go untreated until it is too late.
Hers was able to be treated with meds.
It was a long rough haul, but he saved her life and without surgery.
He listens to me, helps me with standard meds, treatment, herbal and lifestyle changes.
He puts up with NONE of my crap and knows when I am trying to pull a fast-one... which I HATE but need.
I cannot speak highly enough. I know without him, or one like him I would be dead and my wife would probably be too.
I am forever in his debt.
