Riding my bike to work, and was hit by a car whose driver was in a hurry and didn't look properly before making a L-hand turn.

Out on a beautiful Sunday enjoying a nice relaxing ride on my Ducati, that is until some knot-head decided to pull out in front of me. He freaked when he saw me and decided to park in front of me. Well, you can't stop a motorcycle from 55 mph in 50 ft. I went into his driver side door head first. Crushed C5/6, crushed windpipe, wicked concussion, two broken ribs, crushed all the metacarpels in left hand, just about severed the left hand off. I think that's all. No fun!!!

Ultra Light Plane crash. My husband and I fell 250ft. doing 80mph when we hit the ground. I was broken from head to toes. My right leg was nearly amputated at the scene, it lacerated the artery and it clotted. That itself is a mircle. I had a total of 15 surgeries in 3 weeks. It killed my husband, we had been married only 6wks. It left me a T4 para and my right leg is amputated.

I had the shits! Couldn't shake it for three weeks. Eventually walked into my local hospital to hook me onto a saline IV because I was so dehydrated. Over the next 24 hours my body went numb from my toes up to my chest. Tranverse Myelitis they called it.

I was a Vietnam vet, but came back from Southeast Asia with no problems, until 1995. Something started going wrong with my hands. I was told I had ALS but some years later I was getting worse, losing the ability to walk.
Then everything got real bad and that's when they found I had a tumor that had crushed my spinal cord at the c-7 through the t-1 and t-2. The tumor was the type other Vietnam vets were getting from agent orange. It is called a schamonma The military said it was a free gift from Southeast Asia.

Now I am an incomplete t-1, t-2 walking quad.

My friend Mike was in a VW van, at the age of 13, the van flipped approx 3 times... and the rest is history. He is 52 years old now. sadly we are not as close as we used to be, cause our lives went in different directions after our schedules didn't allow us to date.

The result of my SCI came about from a tour in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam conflict. Many years after I returned to the states I slowly developed a tumor(unknown to me and the doctors). The tumor was called a Schamnoma, and grew around my spinal cord at p[oints T-1 & 2, finally crushing my spinal cord to the thickness of a ribbon.

By the time the doctors located the problem, I was completely paralized from the neck on down. I was given 24 hours to live.

They removed the tumor, I lived and now I fight to regain some use of my body.

From what I have seen so far, I think I am the only T-1 & 2 here

As with a lot of people on this post, I was in a car accident. I was 17 years old and had a BAC of .36, which is in the "why didn't you die of that? range." I would never have been in the accident had I not been drunk but being drunk saved me from being decapitated. I slid down under the stearing wheel when the car i was in hit a tree and flipped over several times. My back was busted but I didn't lose my head. This was 13 years ago.

I became a para t6 t7 when I was pregnant with my sencond child. My legs were numb and i didn't have very good judgement of my legs. I would trip and fall all the time. I just thought the baby was laing on a nerve. But after I had her. I was still num. Had a real bad back pain in my back. This was my 6 wk check up and the doctor said how are you doing and I told him that strange feeling was there. He thought it was MS and they did a MRI and found a inch square shaped tumor on my spinal cord. This was 4 days before my birthday and the baby was only 6wks old . Had to go to the hospital right away so they did surgery the next day. So none the less I walked in and was in a wheelchair till this day. this will be 9 years ago September 26 1999. Anyway that is my storie on how I became a para. anybody has any ?'s feel free to ask and I will try my best to answer

Beutiful Sunday afternoon on the airboat...bottle a'Wild Turkey....raisen' hell stoppin at dock parties..27 ..the world was MINE !!! ran outa whiskey..took my buddies new truck to get beer.....beach was full so to get to where we were parked i drove through the lake....when out a bit far...hit a hole ...sunk the truck...waded to shore with the beer though !!!got in my truck, went to get a frontend loader to pull the truck out....didn't make it.....hit a 35 mph corner,,,,almost made it...someone was coming the other way....tried to keep it right but they said I was doin over 90.....woops slides.....rolls..flips helicopter ride 6 months in the hospital inc c5/6........18 years ago still hangin !!

My 21 y/o daughter who is an EMT was in the passenger seat of an ambulance that some how hit a truck parked on the side of the road.
She is a complete c-5 quad, she also lost her right arm in the accident.

I was helping some old lady cross the street when I saw a little girl about to get hit by an out of control John Deere tractor so I grabbed the little girl AND the old lady and threw them both in front of the tractor to save myself. Which would have worked but I slipped on some of the kids blood and fell on my back.

I'm new to the site but, have been reading for sometime. I dove from my patio roof into our pool. I impacted the water wrong, snapping my head and neck backwards, then drowned. I wasn't coherant during the chopper ride to Saint Francis, Tulsa. I woke up with C5/6 incomplete status and alot of tubes. I don't consider it an accident, it is a self-induced injury. My feelings are as follows - I don't care how you got in the chair but, what you've done since. I now go to the local rehab, not as a client but, motivate and inspire others. It'll be 5 years next month that my situation occured.

Yeah, that's the ticket. I was bungee jumping and the cord broke.

There was this really cute girl sitting next to me when they asked how much I weighed.
No way I was gonna tell 'em what I really weighed. Not in front of her. Shit.
I mean she was REALLY CUTE!
So I shaved off a hundred pounds or so thinkin' "what's the big deal?" as I turned towards the object of my new found infatuation tipping my lime green "pimpdaddy" baseball cap and flashing my most insouciant smile

Turns out how much ya weigh makes a BIG difference in bungee jumping.
Sheesh, how the hell was I s'pose ta know?

Anyway, here's the really cool part.
As I rolled by the girl on the way to the ambulance I'm pretty sure she smiled at me!

Streetbike accident on may 22 2007 on way home from work someone pulled in front of me in a truck pretty much hit me head on. Broke neck shattered t4-5 broke arm humerus, clavical, holes in my lungs, all my ribs and they took my spleen out and i was bent backwards at t-4 level. Thankfully still alive I coated 4 times and lost all the blood in my body twice now I have rods from T-1- T-11.

Boring, age-related thing; stenosis of canal at c3-6, decompression by surgery, leaving me with recovered, limited use of hands and legs.

The continuous pain in my forearms and hands is....a pain... but if I need cheering up I know I can browse here.

The bit I like about my injury is that they call it "non-traumatic";

you can take it from me, it wasn't, and isn't.

I was in a car accident back in '01. Going too fast on an old gravel road and hit some ice. Car went flipping and I was thrown thankfully from the vehicle. My spinal cord was cut up and I am now a T3-5 complete para.

Well I ticked the motorbike box only because that is what my husband was riding at the time,but the reason for the accident was the dumb blonde in the car who suddenly descided that driving on the wrong side of the road was a good idea. Appologise to the smart blondes.
